Last few days have quite a number of reports and incidents that matas enter Moo Baan to arrest resident for “drunk driving” in Moo Baan. Moo Baan means village or a group of homes within a fenced or non fenced area. In the city areas, usually it’s fenced, usually mended by security guards, and is considered private property.

In this case, the youth was arrested for drunk riding 50 metres within the Moo Baan.

This is an example of
over enthusiastic. The mata head did warn about strict law enforecement during Songkran. But this is overboard liaoz.

Tomorrow 17 start work. 16 still is official holiday. Do take note that on the 19th which is not an official holiday, most government offices in Pattaya only open just for emergency cases. Do not expect anything except water on the 19th.

Friend thinking of taking over coconut ice cream stall in food court. Come to recce place. Looks like doing well, probably is due to public holiday and school holidays. Need to come recce on a normal day to see if business is as good as today.

Ice cream kosong is 25 baht. Toppings is 5 baht each.

Last day of what? If official government holiday, its 16 (last day). Private ones not fixed. All government offices (whole Thailand) open from 17 onward.

19 is Waan Laai Pattaya, which means entire pattaya (less naklua and nongprue/siam country club/nern plab waan) close down BUT not government offices. Government offices in Pattaya still open mainly for emergencies but do not expect full service on 19 expecially those documents related matters like Immigration extensions.

He said last day of Songkran in Pattaya.
He actually is partially right. Should be first day and last day of Songkran. Traditionally Songkran in Pattaya is celebrated on 19 only. Those smaller scale celebrations by tourists in soi 7 and soi 8 not really counted. This year, due totourist baht, many smaller areas started to have their mini celebrations. Last year was quiet because of someone surrender ic.

Novel way of keeping drunks off the road during festivities

Drunk-driving arrests mount, ankle bracelets keep some at home
national April 16, 2018 13:18

With Chiang Rai, Maha Sarakham and Surin topping the list of provinces for drunk drivers caught in the first five days of Songkran (April 11-15), thousands of offenders were immediately slapped with probation and dozens had monitoring devices attached to their ankles to keep them off the roads.

Probation Department director-general Prasarn Mahaleetrakul said on Monday that the five days saw 3,460 motorists arrested and placed on probation across the country.

Four of those cases involved reckless driving, the rest drunk driving.

In all, there were 6,707 arrests, of which 97.5 per cent were for drunk driving. The remainder were for reckless driving (21 cases), street racing (two) and driving under the influence of narcotics (143), Prasarn said.
Chiang Rai clocked up the most drunk-driving cases with 455, followed by Maha Sarakham at 394 and Surin at 313.

Since April 13, the department had attached electronic monitoring (EM) devices to the ankles of 37 drunk drivers placed on probation, in accordance with court-mandated conditions.

The devices prevent them from leaving their homes between 10pm and 4am for 15 days.

Given one year’s probation, they must report four times to probation officials and do 24 hours of community service.

The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) and related authorities have seized a total of 10,099 vehicles from drunk drivers in the first five days (April 11-15) of monitoring road accidents over the Songkran holidays.

They included 7,372 motorcycles and 2,727 cars and trucks, said National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) and Army deputy spokeswoman Colonel Sirichan Ngathong on Monday.

On Sunday alone, the authorities seized 2,069 motorcycles and 814 cars from drunk drivers, she said.

The five-day period also saw 61,758 travellers using services (resting, asking for direction, and getting a free vehicle check-up) at the Army pit-stops along highways, she said.

The seized vehicles will be returned to their owners after the seven-day accident monitoring period, Sirichan added.

Ok, figures quite expected.

Just imagine if they never tighten the enforcement this year.

Actually quite a good improvement. At least they are doing real enforcement now.

Some footage of songkran celebrations.
This year at least no gunshot reported yet. Quite an improvement.
