A Singaporean's guide to living in Thailand

Last night went to a BBQ restaurant at almost 11pm for makan. Really nice cozy place.

Love the way they pour sake, over the rim on saucer (Hokkaido style)

Started with vege

Then came the meat

Here's a video of the place

Not too expensive with such great meat and 2 sake (about S$100)

Re: Rubber standoff, and investors knee jerk reaction?

Tolls increase just kicked in Sept 1.
5 baht increase, making the tolls from BKK now 50B and 30B into Sukhumvit

Working trip la bro, time very tight.

Hey rotikosong, many thanks for your lead. Cheers.

Time tight still can appreciate some unique things about Tokyo. The beauty for me is to spot the differences in places I go to.

1) There are more than 1 rail company operating the metro network. You can often walk long distances totally underground from one station to another.
2) every station plays a different music track when trains come and go.
3) many pay their train fares, combini etc using their phone (osaifu[wallet] keitai [mobile])
4) Japanese do not generally eat/drink while walking
5) Japanese kids walk to school by themselves
6) old ladies are tough and sometimes don't queue (japanese call them obaterian; obasan is aunty)
7) when you hit the suburbs, lots of bikes everywhere. (japanese call them mama-chari [chariot]). Must watch out for them while walking
8) You will get lost because Tokyo has very squiggly roads and a obtuse road naming system that's based on numbers. That's why most advertisements show a map to the shop that usually involves directions from a train station.
9) Tokyo humidity (especially now) will kill you.
10) The one thing you may not realize: there are more Chinese in Tokyo than in there are in Singapore.
11) Japan is still very much a cash society. Unlike the US for example a lot do not use cash anymore and usually have less than $20 in their wallets max.

Many more.

My katsudon special

My colleague's hamburger

Verdict - both are pretty big portions, for the katsudon I think the eggs used made the difference very fresh eggs pork is very thick and soft. I tried a piece of hamburger and I think I like the hamburger more, the minced pork is fresh surprisingly moist.

Katsudon Special costs is 1,800 yen (S$23) and hamburger is 950 yen (S$12)

Shop this old should be called shinise not omise. Shinise is an shop that has an old traditional heritage. Like Yamasa soy sauce. Like existing since Edo period (i.e. mid 19th century) - that's definitely shinise.

Omise is shop but like I said, there are many shops in Japan that do one thing and one thing only.

Giusto is a highly recommended restaurant for its freshness and quality. Recently prices adjusted for both food and wine so its even a better reason to visit if you are in town.

Main courses

Spegetti with Italian mushrooms and fresh tomatoes

Lasagne - I've never had a lasagne as soft as this before. Shiok.

What about Jazz fusion/new age stuff of the "Kitaro" variety?
