A Singaporean's guide to living in Thailand

Hehehe. if I ever kena something bad, hope it's a quick one. Me the type cannot take pain. Anyway, my last checkup almost decade ago was not too good in the liver. Doctor advised cut down or abstain from alcohol. Never cut down but increase.:p

Aiyoh, no wonder you don't go for checkup..I recall reading about fatty liver or something like that only get worse and the liver will harden if continue to drink? Am not sure, best to check up...this link suitable for you :) http://www.healthline.com/health-bl...-men-are-ostriches-when-it-comes-their-health

Hehehehe. Thanks lah. Drinking and smoking are my enjoyments. If the day should come, have to accept it. Only request is quick and painless one cos' me not the type that can take pains. :)

Thanks pii gin. I agree liver function test is a must. For me my drinking is not business entertainment its more entertaining myself because I love it. For business entertainment the only thing I do is lunches and not much drinks during lunch with customers la. For dinners and karaoke I insists all done by my staff.

Sorry, what is pii? Oh good that your staff do the entertainment for you, I heard he was entertaining the PRCs a lot and they all love to drink!

Hehehe. Pii means either 2 things depending on the tone. Pii can means elder brother or sister OR means Hantu (another tone).

Don't worry, joetys is refering to brother.

Hmm good and bad that liver ailment is painless, not like the stomach conditions, some give a lot of pain and discomfort...but true lah, in SG go fast is the best, I remember my medication for stomach condition...each pill was like $4 or $5, so two or three months supply cost over $1000, damn expensive if need to take in the long term....

OK, let me try. Using Hanyu Pinyin as a guide. If Pee second sound, it means hantu. If Pee 4th sound with a softer tone, it means brother.:)

Bro i think elder not brother in first sound is more likely. 4th sound in mandarin means fart and pee as in elder in thai does not sound like fart in mandarin. Yeah you are correct on the ghost in thai, It sounds just like 2nd tone in mandarin.

Pee doesn't mean brother cos when you call your elder sister you call her pee1 sao. it's also a form of respect when you want to ask strangers inquiries.

Sawasdee krup everyone.

First time in my life I felt leaving Singapore in a hurry like as soon as possible. The heat plus humidity past 3 days and nights while here is unbearable. Coming from Thailand with 38-39degC heat recently cannot match the discomfort felt here with only 34degC. Bangkok was hotter but drier.

About 45mins ago while preparing to leave for the airport suddenly came a heavy downpour. Tried calling for Comfort taxi but in vain for half an hour. Finally called SMRT and got a cab immediately now almost there. Shucks just when I leave the cool weather comes.

Flying off at 9.45am first time taking Lion. Hope it's not dangerous. See you guys.

I partook tambun yesterday with a friend (on occassion of her birthday) in both a wat and also chiangmai hospital ward for monks. Interesting experience, as I'm not a buddhist (free sinner). At the wat, we made offerings to a senior monk (including 2 modest donations thb500 each) and got sprinkled with some holy water and prayers. The latter at monks ward in hospital was a humbling (and respectful) experience. We had prepared packets of milk, biscuits, tissues and also envelopes of thb60 each (hers thb20 + mine thb40) for 24 resident monks in the ward. 2 staffers helped us with move from car, and distribution voluntarily. And I learned too, on custom by emptying holy water next to a big tree.

Any Chiangmai expert know of any new moobaan on sale for landed house with garden and 2-3 bedrooms. Must be safe area and not downtown is okay.

Hehehehe. Strange, after drinking, I prefer to eat Khao Tom (preferably Teochew porridge style), a habit I brought to LOS from SG. Luckily, there are quite a few Khao Tom joints for those who gets hungry after a night out. The other one I really like is Zhu Zha Tang (Luad Moo) but not available here after 10-11pm.

I think this was an SOP after the Zouk or Mhd Sultan days lah.

You just brought the practice over to sin city.:D

Had kao soi lunch at this speciality restaurant (500m from Mae Rim junction). Kao soi is norther version of curry noodles. Normally I get chicken thigh, beef or pork. But 1st time have pla (fish). Northern vocab say 'lam' for delicious, just as 'sao baht' (20 baht). Other dish is moo tod (pork) and own version som tam.

You are right. Just in as Taiwan, I have often come across people who are older than me addressing me as "大哥". Once I was at the bank applying for checking account for my company. The counter girl was quite new and blur, and the manager of the branch, a senior old man, came over to offer his apologies. He addressed me as '大哥" in front of his staff. I was stunned for awhile, and then told him: ”經理,我已經沒做大哥很久了!“ Guess the reaction of the staff ?

YY your pics of the property. Very beautiful. Thanks. Gave ideas for future house design. While in Singapore with family, I have thoughts to have a house in Chiangmai for family to stay for a few months each time to enjoy relaxing Thai life and also cold weather (not summertime la of course). Your opinion in Chiangmai or Chiangrai better?
