No idea how much this plate but the whole meal is about $700 for 2 is rather take into consideration of the freshness and portion or cut its cheap compared to Singapore.

Where to go in Thailand that's not Bangkok, Phuket or Krabi

Ah, Thailand, think favourite getaway for stressed-out Singaporeans and Bangkok definitely comes to mind, especially for a long weekend.

With temperatures dropping across the country from now till January, now's a great time to take advantage of the cool weather.

It helps that the bustling city is just a quick 2.5-hour plane ride away, but Thailand is not just about its capital, although it certainly may seem like it.

Neither is it just about the other popular destinations such as Phuket, Krabi, or even Ko Samui.

So take a walk on the wild side and take a gander instead at these other destinations popular with domestic tourists that are slightly under the radar, to foreigners at least.

PAI
This little town in northern Thailand tucked away between Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son gives off a hippie, boho vibe. Some have even described it as a "smaller (and cuter) version of Khao San road".

But getting there isn't for the faint of heart. Be prepared for a three-hour drive from Chiang Mai, full of winding roads; it's best to get a barf bag ready if you're easily car-sick.

From what we heard and seen on Instagram though, the journey is worth it.

Besides taking in the awesome hill-top views and taking a dip in the nearby waterfalls (if you're brave enough), the place is also home to many cute coffee shops, with some offering amazing countryside views.
Many tourists who have visited Pai recommend renting a scooter to explore the picturesque countryside dotted with padi fields, instead of focusing on the town itself.

One beautiful cafe to visit is located right where Pai connects with the city of Mae Hong Son, where you can dangle your legs in the air while you sip on that cuppa and contemplate on life.

There are also a handful of hot springs and even a geyser, where you will be able to boil eggs (25 baht for four eggs) and eat them.
One caveat though, is that Pai may have lost a little of its rustic charm in the past few years.

I first heard people rave about this town almost 10 years ago, when it was a relatively unexplored gem. However, recent reviews seem to suggest that the place has become "too touristy", and overrun with foreigners who have set up shop in the laid-back town. As an indication of what Pai has become, you can even find keto-friendly food, smoothie bowls and authentic-tasting Mexican tacos here as well.

Up to 600 Thai vendors when Bangkok's Chatuchak market comes to Bukit Timah
03 DEC 2019

The Singapore version will be located at The Grandstand on Turf Club Road and will take place from Feb 4 to May 3, with 30 to 50 Thai vendors coming in every week on rotation.

If you’re a frequent visitor to Bangkok who can’t get enough of its famous markets, especially Chatuchak, you’ll be happy to know that we’ll be getting a version of it in Singapore next year – albeit for a limited period.

Chatuchak Night Market Singapore will take place from Feb 4 to May 3, 2020, at The Grandstand on Turf Club Road in Bukit Timah. The market will open Tuesdays to Sundays from 4pm to 10.30pm.

The 40,000 sq ft space can hold up to 272 stalls that will provide F&B; retail such as handicrafts, fashion, home décor and antiques; as well as services from a mix of Thai and local vendors.

According to Imran Mohamad, who is part of the organising team, 30 to 50 Thai vendors will be brought in every week on rotation to make up the 600 from the country that will be selling their wares throughout the duration of the market.

One such vendor is Rooftop Barbers Studio, a certified master barber who will be providing artisan gentlemen haircuts.

There will also be several hundred seats for visitors who want to enjoy the street food and drinks on the premises. Visitors will enjoy free parking and free shuttle services from locations in Clementi, Toa Payoh and Sixth Avenue to the market.

This is the first time that Chatuchak market’s brand will appear outside of Thailand. The local version is the brainchild of Keith Tay, founder and director Chatuchak SG, who used to run a boat noodle business in Singapore.

Another famous Thai market export has already hit our shores; Artbox recently held its third iteration in Singapore in mid-November with over 300 regional and local curated entertainment acts, retailers and artworks by visual and expressive artists.

Pardon my ignorance. I under estimated. That platter definitely cost more, and $700 for 2pax is like singapore's rates.

For the food itself I do believe Singapore is definitely more expensive than $700

I do apologize for not saying that the cost of this meal do include 2 big bottles of very fine sake and 10 big bottles of Singha (for the chefs and kitchen staff).

Confidence in manufacturing, employment drops

The Business Sentiment Index (BSI) dropped to 47.4 in November 2019, which was below the 50 threshold for eight consecutive months.

The Business Sentiment Index (BSI) dropped to 47.4 in November 2019, which was below the 50 threshold for eight consecutive months due largely to weaker confidence in the manufacturing sector, according to a central bank report on Monday (December 2).

However, the confidence of respondents in the non-manufacturing sector held steady this month, the report said. Their order books and investment sentiment improved slightly, while the positive performance outlook edged down.

The three-month BSI fell to 52.7 due to a softened positive outlook in almost all sub-indices, especially in production and performance.
In November 2019, the BSI decreased from the previous month to 47.4, mainly driven by a pessimistic view of respondents in the manufacturing sector.

Automotive and petroleum-related sectors showed reductions in production, performance and orders because of a sluggish demand both domestic and external, as well as inconclusive trade negotiations between the US and China.

There was also a broad-based decrease in sub-indices, especially for production and performance.
In particular, respondents in the construction and machinery manufacturing sectors were less optimistic on future production and performance, in line with their investment conditions that have not recovered yet.

However, the expected BSI and almost all sub-indices remained above the 50 threshold, indicating that most respondents still expected an economic expansion in the future, the report said.

Weak domestic demand remained the most important constraint in doing business this month, consistent with the persistent deterioration of sentiment in domestic order books for six consecutive months.

Furthermore, more respondents expressed concern over economic uncertainty, which was also partly reflected by the downtrend of the performance sentiment index as well as the worsened business sentiment in employment over the last three months particularly in the manufacturing sector.
However, expected inflation in the next 12 months remained unchanged at 1.7 per cent, the report added.
