I had an argument with someone and claimed that he showed a lack of thought process.
He was very upset by this, but he could not articulate clearly why he was upset.
Of course, I knew what I mean by that statement, but I wasn't going to explain to him, so we left the situation at that unresolved and angry state.

Can I ask the following:

1. Do you understand what I meant by "a lack of thought process"? Can you explain it?

2. Does it imply a lack of intelligence? If not, what does it imply?

I'll explain my views when I receive some answers/comments. Thanks for replying.

There are known knowns. There are things we know we know.
But we also know there're known unknowns. That is to say, we know there're some things we do not know.
But there're also unknown unknowns. The ones we don't know we don't know.

That's quite a hurting remark, if you say something like that to me, I will probably think you are telling me that I am stupid!

One very important lesson in life that I learnt is never hurt others. I ever hurt one colleague elder than me by 8 years old. I am like you but more blunt, i told him straight in the face that he is useless or stupid, I can't remember well. That caused him to come back office on the next day with a very sullen face. Apparently, he did not sleep very well for my remark as from the look on his eyes tell me that.:(

It's rude, condescending and most uncalled for. You are a bitch to say such things, please reflect on your behaviour. Few people- not even intellecutally subnormal ones- have a LACK of thought process.

Everyone has a thought process, if not they will rely on pure instincts- like animals! Instead of saying someone has a LACK of thought process, you might try this: "I think you haven't really thought this out fully enough".

Don't be such a cocky bitch.

A lack of thought process simpy means that thoughts are lacking, or not enough thoughts per sec has been generated to pass thru the brain.

X / 60sec = 0 < 840t
where t is constant 840 thoughts per sec

This could be due to stress, Alzheimer's disorder or simply heavy caffeine abuse.

No offence after reading this,

Actually you can say it in your perspective that this someone shows a lack of thought but if you are thoughtful enough to understand that he has this lack of thought, you might not blurt this to him.

Anyone would feel offended and angry if someone says that. However its a good lesson to learn that talking to people requires skills and tact. To talk to someone you know or don't know, its best to use the 1st 5 mins to see whether the person thinks deep enough like you.

Like me lah. I draw inspiration from Donald Trump in a joint agreement that taxi drivers (a number but still, not all) do know quite a lot of things on the street and the life on it.

What you and the other guy say is true. jw5 is not a bad person, but I think, from the way he writes, that he is a bland and blunt person who may sometimes even feel lonely and he also wonders why when people including his friends have quietly deserted and ignored him.

What is he? In his 30s? 40s? I thought a matured oldling like him can do better than that.

Thought process means 思維. A lack of thought process simply means 缺乏思維.

It simply means the person lacks the skills in building his own arguments, and such skills are founded on logic.

It does imply a lack of intelligence, but it doesn't mean stupid.

Whether the person is going to feel hurt depends on a few things:

(1) What is your status vis-a-vis that person ?
(2) The manner in which the comment was conveyed.

There are not many who 缺乏思維, more likely it's a case of 思維不夠清晰。

Everyone says things or do things in a spur of the moment, especially when emotions run high. So sometimes what we say and what we think are different. There are people who think of something but could not express it in words, there are others who express it in words first before thinking.
It doesn't matter whether you are 20, 30, 40, 50, or over that. But the older that person comes with more experiences in life.

Ever heard of people saying "Talking to People is an Art."
People who need to broker deals or contracts often have to think a few steps ahead of what their clients are thinking. There are people who hold conversations with others not to really talk to them, but to know what they are thinking within.

To summarise, I don't think people with lack of thought will take offense after they cooled down. But those who take offense and have a grudge with what jw5 said, then it shows that person is quite deep in his thinking.

This must have been an arguement with Tonychat aka Bodycells.

Good, next time I can tell the Ah Soh in front of me at the supermarket queue, you ah "lack of thought". At least I am not the only one fuming mad.

Many a times you see this type of Ah Soh lack of thought in progress. They will wait till the cashier tell them the cost of groceries and then slowly one at a time, search their hang bag for their purse. And then dig out note piece by piece. And then the coins...

There is a complete lack of thought of the people queuing behind them.

My thoughts always get less and less after lunch...after which I will doze off in the office. Is that a lack of thought process? :D

I think to say someone is stupid and useless is much more hurting and unpleasant than to say someone lacks thought process.
The former is a blatant generalization, whereas the latter could mean only for the particular subject matter.

But I get your point that it is hurting and could be interpreted as saying the guy is stupid.

Your suggested comment is a good one, thanks for that.

But only a cocky bitch would call someone a cocky bitch.
Perhaps you need to go through your thought process as well.

Those are all possible reasons.
It does not necesarily mean that someone is stupid or lacks intelligence.
It could simply mean that he has not thought deeply enough about the subject matter, for various reasons.

Oh don't get me wrong, I am a cocky bitch but have no hang ups about it- unlike you (seemingly).

I wouldn't be bothered about what other people feel about what I say or do.
