I think many gays have made it a point to promote their lifestyle choice.
In some cases if someone says they are straight , the gays see it as being a statement of anti-gay.

They can just lead their lives, why promote that lifestyle choice? They need to be reminded that their being gay does not make the world a better place.

I think they see promoting their choice as a form of freedom of expression.
It gets a bit extreme when you have same sex parents who get disappointed when their child chooses to be straight.
So in some cases that spirit of being able to choose does not apply. All biased.
But I think this is human nature. Each human being wants to think their way is the best way is the right way and everyone should follow them.

I can’t remember the details of ng boon gay already but I think you should apply what you preached on gays and lesbians to ask them to lead their own lives and not promote or create a spectacle out of a past event.
