61% Increase in Pay Over 2 Years. Guess Who?

If you not happy with them nothing is stopping you from voting them out.

Sure, but why would I want to vote them in when I am not happy with them in the first instance? Unless they come with a free trial period.

Sorry I mistakenly beleieved you wanted change.

It seems to me, you are satisfied to have the PAP run things i.e a fence sitter :)

Of course I want change but I want the change to be the change I want. Not a change of pigs feeding at the trough.

Spoiling my vote just means that I do not approve of any of the candidates running for office. Why should I simply cast my vote for one of them if I don't want any of them to represent me?

Since voting is compulsory, the only way to show my disapproval is to spoil the vote. Again, get it through your head that I am not for or against the incumbent. Spoiling my vote simply means none of the candidates has my support, period. Why should I vote for someone to represent me when I don't believe he is fighting for my interests?

When there is a huge percentage of spoilt votes, there will be incentives for the political parties to actually go and find out what is it that the people want. If you just vote opposition because you are unhappy with PAP, how do you know you will be happy with the opposition? It is like telling me you will marry someone on offer even if you don't love her at all.

voting is compulsory on a technicality. no one has ever been thrown into prison for not voting. this is historical fact.

by your logic, you believe the PAP is fighting for your interests, hence you see no need to vote them out. and you only only vote someone out if your interests have been compromised. so you are perfectly happy to spoil your vote and let the PAP have its way with you and your family.

your analogy of marriage is so flawed. more appropriately, you will divorce someone you don't love. and the only way to divorce, in a political setting, is to vote against the incumbent.

a vote spoiler is as good as a PAP lover. because both are after the same outcome - the PAP to stay in power.

interesting how your comments reflect so accurately the ST article on vote spoiling.

Yes,may be ,perhaps that prostitute fr 160th has indeed better spoil vote reading ability from most of the people.

Due credit to him.

are you pretending to be unsophisticated or are you genuinely dense?

the free trial period is simply 1 election term. 5 years. not happy, vote them out. will having 20-30 opposition MPs for 1 term ruin singapore and cause our housing prices to collapse? i think not.....................

and its not like you will be voting them in to become minister and draw nice big salary. only a pathetic 13k a month mp allowance. can't even buy a decent yacht with that kind of peanuts pay.

Well,he seems to be voicing his heart!

Sporeans support the PAP for various reasons.

There are those who don't want to loose their gov't jobs. Some who are ignorant & are blindly following the PAP. Those paid to spread the PAP truth e.g. internet brigade, SPH, ISD,....

The internet is an anonymous place, so we can't really tell if he's really a she or them :)

Actually to me he sounds really legitimate in the sense that he said,I only unhappy with the S$4 millions they get a year, other than that,it is perfectly OK for me.They are nice or I dont fuck care, things like that

Sure, that is his opinion,to each his own, freedom of speech.

When I vote, I am voting on the presumption that the individual I am voting for, whether or not he belongs to a party, whether or not he will form the government, will push for the reforms I want. Voting him out 5 years later if he doesn't perform is another issue altogether. If he does not campaign for my beliefs, why would I care whether or not he becomes a minister or not? It does not make a difference because he is never going to address my concerns anyway. So, you are putting the cart before the horse. The MP must first be elected to represent the people's wishes. If the opposition cannot even get a seat in Parliament, doesn't that speak volumes about where the wishes of the majority lie? Are you sure that the majority of the population wants to have an opposing voice in Parliament so much that they don't care who they are voting for as long as they will oppose the PAP?

Right now, the top of my wish list is to ensure that the ministers get a pay cut and the government is accountable to the people on how they are getting paid. Heck, I think even the MPs' allowances should be cut if they are allowed to hold so many directorships but that is not at the top of my list of concerns.

spoiling your vote = doing nothing.

if majority of the voting population thinks like you, pap will be around forever.

You are misguided. Spoiling the vote is not doing nothing. It is also exercising my choice. My choice is that I choose not to support any of the candidates on offer.

If majority of population spoil their vote, why can't the opposition win if they have a hardcore group of supporters? Are you saying that the hardcore group of supporters for PAP is larger than that for the opposition?

You guys need to get it into your head that you need to put in the effort to win the votes. Getting all worked up about how people need to vote opposition to oppose the PAP is useless as is evident with the long years of PAP domination. You can pick on me all you like, in the end, it is what the majority wishes that is important. You can also spend your time here scolding the stupid Sinkies but I will tell you that you are just wasting your time.

I scold Sinkies here to vent my frustration. If I am running for office, you can be sure that I will be going all out to find out what they want from their representative in Parliament rather than ranting here.

I am assuming of course, that you are an opposition supporter. You are equally likely to be a PAP supporter trying to impugn on the good work done by the opposition.

I am not only unhappy with the high pay of the ministers. I am also unhappy with lots of things. But I place a very high priority on reducing the pay because if my elected representative is not committed to that, I have serious problems believing that he has the conviction to fix all the other issues.

I sincerely hope you are not part of the opposition and are a spy planted by the PAP. If not, the opposition is really hopeless.

Spoiling the vote is sitting on the fence? So, let's say you are offered rice or noodles for a meal, however, you decide to skip the meal because you don't like both. Is that sitting on the fence? What if, to the people, there is no fence at all? Same thing, I hate the PAP does not mean I will willy-nilly vote anyone into Parliament. Give the opposition a try? You must be joking. Why should I if they are not addressing my concerns?

All the more reason that the opposition has to win the hearts and votes of those who are not the hardcore supporters by addressing their concerns properly instead of making useless statements like vote the PAP out for a better life.
