The New Paper is truly living up to its reputation as the propaganda mouthpiece and smear machine of the PAP regime.
Six out of seven pages of local news in the TNP today are devoted to the PAP ¨C the first two pages on the departures of MM Lee and SM Goh from the cabinet, the next two on two losing PAP candidates in Aljunied GRC and the last two on the various ¡¯schemes¡¯ available to help homeless Singaporeans get a flat, using the plight of a homeless former hawker as an example.
As expected, the article on MM Lee and SM Goh¡¯s departures was deliberately slanted in such a way to give the erroneous public impression that both of them are ¡¯solely missed¡¯ by Singaporeans while the majority of the online community are rejoicing over it.
TNP even put up an unsubstantiated poll claiming that ¡°44 out of 60¡å Singaporeans were ¡¯saddened¡¯ by their departures and wanted them to remain in the Singapore cabinet.
The article on Lim Hwee Hua and Cynthia Phua is nothing more than a window-dressing to save the ¡®face¡¯ of the two defeated candidates. Ms Lim was quoted as saying that she felt upset that her ¡®15 long years of service¡¯ in Aljunied GRC didn¡¯t seem to count much as residents had no qualms sending her packing home.
Of the 54 pages, only 7 pages are original articles written by TNP staff journalists with the rest reproduced from elsewhere. With the exception of an opinion piece of Neil Humphreys, the other 11 pages of soccer news are reproduced from PA sports, AFP, AP and Wire Services.
TNP also has 11 pages of advertisements put up by credit loan companies, more than its 6 pages of job ads. Is TNP promoting the money-lending industry?
In the meantime, public anger over TNP¡¯s gutter journalism continues to gather storm on the Boycott TNP Facebook which has garnered more than 7,400 ¡®likes¡¯ so far.
According to insider sources, embattled TNP deputy editor Melvin Singh remains ¡¯secure¡¯ in his position despite the backlash over his articles and is likely to be rewarded with several months of ¡®performance¡¯ bonuses at the end of the year.
