SINGAPORE - Two more men have been jailed for having commercial sex with a minor.

46-year-old Yee Yew Seng was sentenced to three months' jail for paying $200 for the sexual services of a 17-year-old Vietnamese girl at a Geylang hotel in July last year.

The storeman had approached the girl at a pub in Geylang Road and asked her in Vietnamese to "have sex".

They went to Hotel 12 in Geylang to have sex after they agreed on a price of $250 for overnight sexual services.

He paid her $200.

According to The Straits Times, Yee did ask the girl about her age. She told him she was 20 years old, but he did not verify this fact.

Yee was also sentenced to another one week's jail for stealing $1,368 worth of fans from Toyomi warehouse at Shunli Industrial Complex on May 28 this year.

Both sentences will run consecutively.

The English daily also reported that 54-year-old sub-contractor Wee Lian Kee was sentenced to nine weeks' jail for having commercial sex with a minor.

The father of three had paid $180 for the services of a 16-year-old Vietnamese girl at Hup Hoe Hotel in Geylang in July last year.

Wee had met the victim and two others at a food stall in Geylang. He asked one of the Vietnamese girls about the victim's age.

He was told that she was 18 but did not verify this.

The men could each have been jailed up to seven years and / or fined for commercial sex with a girl under 18.

I'm sure many potential clients wouldn't mind paying a small fee for the peace of mind it would bring.

The issue of false or manipulated data is a separate issue. What needs to be established up front is the definition of what sufficient due diligence is when it comes to checking the age of a whore.

It has already been established that asking the whore alone is insufficient. Hence the "asked but did not verify" verdict. What constitutes sufficient verification then? Passports can be forged too.
