The police added that the incident happened at a building in Buroh Street on May 24. Officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man that day and arrested him on June 12.

The police, in a statement on June 12, said the man had allegedly used a metal cutter to damage two wheel clamps, which belonged to the building’s management and cost about $500.

He also allegedly removed the building’s carpark gantry barrier arms and kept them in his shop in the building, the police said, adding that the man also posted videos of his acts on social media. Videos of a man performing similar acts were uploaded to his own Facebook account on May 24 and 25. They received over 39,000 views and over 45 comments.

In the first video, he instructs two men to use a handheld equipment to remove the wheel clamps. He later uses a penknife to dismantle three barrier arms, which he leaves in his vehicle, to get out of the building. In the second video, he removes another gantry barrier arm.

The man will be charged on June 13 over the two offences.

MAN ARRESTED FOR THEFT AND MISCHIEF​


The Police have arrested a 46-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of theft and mischief.

On 24 May 2024, the Police were alerted to a case of alleged theft of carpark gantry barrier arms and mischief causing damage to the building management’s wheel clamps along Buroh Street.

Through ground enquiries, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man on the same day and subsequently arrested him on 12 June 2024. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had allegedly used a metal cutter to damage two wheel-clamps, approximately valued at S$500. He was further alleged to have removed the building’s carpark gantry barrier arms and kept them in his shop premise within the building. The man purportedly posted videos of his blatant acts on social media.

The man will be charged in court on 13 June 2024 with the offences of theft under Section 379 of Penal Code 1871 and mischief under Section 426 of Penal Code 1871. The offence of theft carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine, or both. The offence of mischief carries an imprisonment term of up to two years, a fine, or both.

The Police will not tolerate such brazen acts of crime and will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.

SINGAPORE - A man, believed to have been seen in two videos removing carpark gantry barrier arms, was charged on June 13 with one count each of theft and committing mischief.
Malaysian Kew Ah Hing, 46, who is a director at multiple firms including Durian Heng Union and Kian Heng Truck Body Builder, is accused of using a penknife to remove four of such arms at the West Connect Building in Buroh Street in Pioneer shortly before 7.30pm on May 24.
After that, the Singapore permanent resident allegedly stored them at Kian Heng Truck Body Builder’s premises on the sixth floor of the building.

Kew is also accused of using a metal cutter to damage two wheel clamps at the building that evening. They were worth $500 in total.
In a statement, police said that he was arrested on June 12, adding: “The man purportedly posted videos of his blatant acts on social media.”
In one of the videos, a man can be seen instructing two others to use a handheld piece of equipment to remove the wheel clamps.


He later uses a penknife to dismantle three barrier arms, which he leaves in his vehicle, to get out of the building. He removes another gantry barrier arm in another video.
