In a recent press release published by Toyota, the manufacturer says it will begin solid-state battery production “starting from 2026” and that this will be “gradually implemented.” With its next-generation performance battery (which will be built by two third parties for Toyota), it wants to reach an annual production target of 9 gigawatt-hours, although this combined figure will be achieved over time.

Speaking at the Chengdu motor show last week, Yu Jingmin discussed a new solid state battery technology that has been developed in-house and is planned to be introduced to numerous upcoming EV models from SAIC brands, including premium offering IM and the more affordable Wuling volume brands in China.


If successful, the introduction of SSBs will occur a full 12 months before the company’s original timelines, putting MG, as well as the other previously mentioned brands, well ahead of the competition.

going by the # of events, you're incorrect. This is the sole example of a Mercedes EV igniting. Tesla on the other hand has 44 well-documented cases and goodness how many undocumented ones.

In the context of the Western world, BEV's are a fucking rich person's toy or a virtue signaller's (usually an incel) flag.

Anyone with a reasonable understanding of physics and engineering would understand that BEVs are a fool's errand in countries with real highway speeds with the current available technology.

The total reason for BEV adoption is twofold :

(1) Government incentives

Not only are BEVs subsidized heavily, gas car makers are heavily penalized for every gas car they sell. Tesla is the prime beneficiary for this. For a long time, most of Tesla's profits were derived from carbon credits. Meaning that for every vehicle Ford, GM or then Chrysler sold, they had to pay Tesla a few thousand dollars for the privilege. It didn't matter that the Tesla was garbage. All that mattered was that for every EV they produced, loss or no, they got to claim even more money from the other companies. The received amount was so significant, that it dwarfed their operational losses from making and selling BEVs

(2) Cool factor

Losers and incels by the boatload bought them to improve their social credibility. Some of these people are outwardly successful (even getting laid very often!) but are inwardly the very definition of an incel. That's why the Tesla brand is important to them. It brings them some measure of belonging and happiness. As it would with joining any church, mosque or temple. All the other EV companies are sad trying to imitate Tesla because they have the market cornered on sad, lonely people. And the reason for that is that the boss himself is a prime exemplar of successful yet sad and lonely. He understands his target market as he understands himself.

The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) reported 23 fires in 611,000 EVs during 2022, or 0.004 per cent in a year, which makes it 20 times less likely to happen than ICE car fires, which burned 3,400 times in 4.4 million cars, or 0.08 per cent. MSB has also recently proven a new way to extinguish battery fires fast.

I read about the cases when EV cars burst and nobody can extinguish the fire. I wouldn't want my car parked near. I usually check out YourParkingSpace for secure parking spots. They offer various options, allowing users to find safer areas to park and help ease concerns about fire hazards. Safety should always come first.
