Reds legend Ian Callaghan featured in 857 games for the Merseyside club and the Spanish goalkeeper believes the current captain will get near to that milestone

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has insisted Steven Gerrard can go close to Reds legend Ian Callaghan's record of 857 games for the club after making his 600th appearance against Newcastle on Sunday.
The 32-year-old made his debut in 1998 after graduating from the Merseyside club's academy and has enjoyed a trophy-laden career - lifting the Champions League & FA Cup amongst other honours.
But the Spaniard insists the Huyton-born midfielder is not finished yet, and has backed him to get another 200 matches under his belt.
"It's an incredible achievement and all credit to him. He does his best in every single training session and leads by example every day," he told the club's official website.
"It's only a figure, but 600 games is unbelievable and the only thing we can do is encourage him even more and get him to play almost 800!"
The shot-stopper went on to reveal that the Liverpool captain is important to the squad both on and off the field due to his high standards and work ethic.
He added: "He is always leading by example. He always sets the tempo in training and off the field he is an important figure to follow.
"He knows the club more than anybody and knows the city as well, so he is always there to help you out.
"He is giving his best every day, not just on the training pitch but also in the gym and doing things to prevent injuries as much as he can. Hopefully he will be with us for much longer.
"He will be remembered as a legend. A Liverpool legend - and one of the most important players in English history."
Everton's new strip is one for the ladies as Toffees get their kit off in charity calendar
By DOMINIC KING PUBLISHED: 11:32 GMT, 7 November 2012 | UPDATED: 12:03 GMT, 7 November 2012
Move over Calendar Girls… here are Goodison Park’s Calendar Boys as you have never seen them before.Everton has always been a club eager to try innovative things to raise money for charity, such as when they launched a limited edition pink kit to raise awareness for breast cancer, and they have done it again in time for Christmas.David Moyes’ squad have shed their clothes and inhibitions to pose for a calendar titled ’12 shades of Blue’ to raise money for the club’s official charity, Everton in the Community, which is in its 25th year.
One for the ladies: Everton's charity calendar, with Tim Howard and Phil Neville (right) should go down a storm
Tim Howard, Phil Neville, Kevin Mirallas and Marouane Fellaini are among those players who have been captured in varying states of undress – football equipment, rather than flowers and cupcakes, preserve their modesty – for a calendar, which is aimed at Everton’s female fans. The limited edition print, which is the first to be produced by a Barclays Premier League club, is available from November 22. It costs £10 and all proceeds go towards Everton in the Community’s ambition of generating £1million for underprivileged and vulnerable people on Merseyside.
Big player: Neville Southall would probably admit Everton keepers were not always as ripped as Tim Howard
‘Shooting the calendar was lots of fun and myself and the other boys were happy to help out,’ said United States goalkeeper Howard. 'It’s a great feeling to do something to help other people and I hope sales of the calendar raise a good amount for the charity.’The hashtag #12shadesofblue was trending on Twitter and many orders have been placed without people having seen the risque shots. The photo of Howard gives an idea of what can be expected, while Neville's bare midriff is on the front cover. To buy your copy of 12 Shades of Blue, visit Everton One, Everton Two or evertondirect.com.To guarantee your copy of 12 Shades of Blue before 22 November, pre-order at evertonfc.com/12shades.ton

Drogba committed to Shenhua project as former Chelsea star rules out European return
By MATT FORTUNE PUBLISHED: 11:21 GMT, 7 November 2012 | UPDATED: 11:25 GMT, 7 November 2012
Didier Drogba has ruled out a return to Europe in January. The Chelsea striker ended a trophy-laden eight-year spell in the Premier League during the summer when he moved to China. Life at Shanghai Shenhua has been difficult, though, for the 34-year-old, who has had to deal with three change of manager as well as a board wrangle that threatened to hamper payment of wages.
No China problem: Didier Drogba says he is happy at Shanghai Shengua
However Drogba, who earns around £300,000 a week, insists he sole focus is hitting the ground running ahead of the new Chinese Super League season which starts again in March. The Champions League winner, who has been linked with Liverpool, told the Shanghai Morning Post: 'I hope next season I can start again from the beginning with Shenhua. 'Because I joined relatively late, I didn't prepare with the team early in the season, so our results were not very good.'
Drogba scored eight times in 11 league appearances following his move, while another former Chelsea man, Nicolas Anelka, notched just three times in 22 outings as Shenhua finished ninth in a 16-team league. Liverpool explored the possibility of bringing Drogba to Anfield on a two-month loan, but found themselves thwarted by red tape.
Former England star Neville wants rooftop pitch at his new hotel next to Old Trafford
Already has permission 10-storey, for 139-bed hotel
Wants to amend plans to include rooftop pitch and bar
Plans opposed by Neville's former club, Manchester United
By WILLIAM COOK PUBLISHED: 12:01 GMT, 7 November 2012 | UPDATED: 12:05 GMT, 7 November 2012
Former Manchester United star Gary Neville has clashed with his old club over plans to build a hotel with a rooftop pitch. The England coach already has planning permission for a 139-bed hotel and supporters' club in the shadow of Old Trafford, but has now submitted amendments which include the 16m by 12m artificial area.Trafford planning committee will meet on Thursday to consider the plans for the rooftop area, which would have a retractable canopy, bar and TVs and raise the height of the 10-storey building 1.9m higher than previous drawings.
Gary Neville has submitted plans for a 10-storey, 139-bed hotel with a rooftop football pitch at Old Trafford
Manchester United have already objected to Neville's development, on the grounds that it would obstruct views of their stadium’s east stand. In a report to the council, the club said: 'The tall landmark building would obstruct key views towards the stadium’s east stand. 'The east stand is the principle elevation and forms a highly visible focal point on approach to the stadium and any development proposal that fails to acknowledge the stand’s significance as a consequence of inappropriate scale and massing should not therefore be accepted.'
At odds: The former Manchester United player has clashed with the club over the hotel development
In May Manchester United lodged a stinging five-page objection letter against the hotel, leisure and retail complex. They claimed the development has insufficient parking and say that even if those issues were resolved, ‘MUFC shall continue to oppose and object to the proposed scheme due to its impact on the Old Trafford landscape, highway safety and the club’s holistic vision for the continuing enhancement of the area surrounding the stadium’.
Manchester United have refused to comment on plans for the artificial pitch. A new planning application has also been submitted for two giant LED advertising screens on the side of the hotel. The Sky Sports pundit and Mail on Sunday columnist is no stranger to planning battles, having recently secured permission for a 'Teletubby' eco-home in rural Lancashire.Proposals to include a 100-foot wind turbine had to be dropped, but developers came up with even 'greener' ways to power Neville's house - which will be the first carbon-neutral house in Bolton and in the North West.It will include a ground source heat pump, sustainable rainwater harvesting and solar panels.
Last month, the former United captain spoke at a conference in Manchester about his involvement in the hotel industry. He said: 'It’s like when I made my debut for Manchester United - I don’t know what’s going to happen. But in the same way - if you’ve got good people around you, you feel like you can succeed.' 'I’m excited because it will be my first foray into the world of hotels. I’m really looking forward to it. I want to deliver and achieve something.' Neville said he did not want to comment on the revised plans.

The sister of Brazil striker Hulk has been returned unharmed to her family after being kidnapped and held hostage for 24 hours.Angelica Aparecida Vieira de Souza was taken at gunpoint on Monday while waiting outside a restaurant in the Brazilian city of Campina Grande. The 22-year-old was finally recovered and questioned by police, and it has been reported that no ransom was paid for her safe release.
Safe and sound: Angelica Aparecida Vieira de Souza, the sister of Brazil striker, Hulk, was returned to her home after being kidnapped at gunpoint
Souza is the youngest of Hulk’s six sisters, and was left outside her parents’ home by a silver Honda, according to local reports. The former Porto striker is believed to be extremely close to his family, most of whom still reside in Campina Grande. Liverpool midfielder and international team-mate of Hulk’s Lucas Leiva took to Twitter, hoping for the safe return of Souza. He tweeted: ‘I want to offer my friend HULK support. Much strength friend, I am praying that this will be resolved as soon as possible. Hugs.'Hulk signed for Zenit St Petersburg for £32million in September. His signing had been met with derision in some quarters, as the 26-year-old striker is reported to earn far more than his team-mates.In particular Aleksandr Kerzhakov and Igor Denisov have publicly criticised the lavish signings of Hulk and former Benfica midfielder Axel Witsl for a combined £72million.
Worried: Hulk is reported to be very close to his family, especially his youngest sister
Former Manchester City star Robinho was put through a similar ordeal to his international team-mate.His mother was kidnapped and held hostage for 40 days in Praia Grande, in Sao Paolo state, and was only released after a ransom was paid. And in May 1994 the late father of Brazil legend Romario, then playing for Barcelona was kidnapped as he left a bar in Rio de Janeiro and held for a £4million ransom. Police freed Edevair Faria seven days later after bursting in on the kidnappers' hideout.Other areas of South and Central America have proven unsafe for the families of footballers, and have been targeted for their relative’s sky-high wages.Stoke City midfielder Wilson Palacios was not so lucky. His younger brother, Edwin, was kidnapped by an armed gang when he was 14 in the Honduran city of La Ceiba. His body was found in 2009 in the municipality of El Paraiso.

Chelsea announce annual profit for first time since 2003
The Blues have released details of their €1.75m profit for the previous financial year, thanks to the fifth-largest revenue in Europe and a €36m profit from transfer activity

By Tim Poole
Chelsea have announced an annual profit of €1.75m for the year ending 30th June 2012.
The declaration marks the first time the Blues have made a profit since Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003.
And the club also announced a record group turnover of €319.8m, putting the Stamford Bridge outfit into fifth in Europe in terms of generated revenue.
Chelsea’s profits in 2011/12 are a significant improvement on their €84.9m loss for the previous financial year, while they also made a €36m profit in the transfer market.
The figures do not include the lavish investment spent on the likes of new recruits Eden Hazard and Oscar, as the money was spent in the new financial year.
However, Chelsea’s successful financial year will still not go unnoticed and was hugely attributable to the increased revenue gained from their Champions League win in May – which rose from €278.4m this previous year.
In addition, the club were able to secure numerous commercial deals off the pitch and the overall impact has delighted chief executive Ron Gourlay.
He said: “'Our club philosophy is built on success. We had that success on the field this year, as we were the first London team to win the Champions League, and we enjoyed it off the field as well and this helps us inject financial investment into the team.
“The big challenge is always to have a successful team on the field that wins trophies and to make a profit at the same time.
“The objectives have been set across the whole business, from the academy to under-21s and all the way through to the first team.”
The figures place Chelsea in a much healthier position to deal with Uefa’s upcoming Financial Fair Play regulations and chairman Bruce Buck was similarly pleased by the announcements.
He said: “We will never forget that night in Munich and now we are celebrating serious progress off the field too.
“While we draw huge satisfaction from the achievements of the past 12 months we are more than ever focused on continuing the story of on-field success supported by improving financial performance off the pitch.”
Michu, Mata and Cazorla all buy shares in bid to save Real Oviedo
The Premier League stars have purchased stakes in their former club, who need €2 million by November 17 to avoid extinction, with the Swansea City man asking for more support

Premier League trio Michu, Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla have combined in an effort to save their former side Real Oviedo from going bust.
The Spanish third division side could go out of business by November 17 if they do not raise €2 million [£1.5m]. But the England-based players, all of whom started their careers at the struggling team, are aiming to help.
Michu, who started his career at Oviedo and stayed there between the ages of five and 21, confirmed that all three had contributed, telling reporters: "Myself, Mata and Cazorla have all bought shares, but it would be wrong of me to say how much.
Michu, who joined Swansea City for £2m (€2.5m) in the summer, hopes that Oviedo can experience a similar revival to that of his current side, the Swans themselves almost having gone out of business 10 years ago.
"Swansea fans should know how much it means to me and the Oviedo supporters," the Spaniard continued.
"I remember reading up on the history of Swansea when I first arrived here; I remember reading how the Swansea supporters bought shares in this club when it was in trouble 10 years ago - and again many years before that.
"And look at the club now; in the Premier League and winning at places like Anfield. Hopefully this SOS can have a similar reaction."
No wonder Fergie let him go! Juve drop Pogba after midfielder is late for training
By MARTIN DOMIN PUBLISHED: 08:16 GMT, 10 November 2012 | UPDATED: 11:20 GMT, 10 November 2012
Paul Pogba has been dropped from the Juventus squad ahead of tonight's Serie A clash with Pescara after twice turning up late for training. The former Manchester United midfielder has been a regular for the Italian side and featured in their 4-0 thrashing of Nordsjaelland in the Champions League on Wednesday. But the 19-year-old has paid the price for his poor timekeeping and will remain in Turin while his team-mates bid to maintain top spot in the league.
Late: Paul Pogba has been dropped by Juventus for poor timekeeping
His agent however has criticised Juventus for dropping the midfielder.'Whoever decided to put this news out on the website is evidently confused,' Mino Raiola said in Gazzetta dello Sport.'I hope it wasn't (manager Antonio) Conte's own decision, otherwise it means he is unable to deal with these kinds of situations.'Paul is very disappointed with what happened, both with his lateness, despite having a good reason for it, and not being a part of the squad.'
In the first instance, he only received notification of the training session time late at the night.'The second time he had some appointments that the club itself had organised for him to go to.'Pogba signed for Juventus after a protracted battle with Sir Alex Ferguson who claimed the youngster was being disrespectful by leaving United in the dark over a new contract before he quit in favour of a £20,000-a-week four-year deal with the 'Old Lady'.
Hitting the headlines: Pogba has impressed since joining the Italian side
However, the French teenager insists he simply left in search of more first-team opportunities in Turin. ‘I don’t know why he said that,’ claimed Pogba. ‘A 19-year-old player who said no to Ferguson – maybe he took it badly? ‘There are things about which we failed to agree. I don’t regret anything. But you have to be part of it to understand my decision.‘It’s a feeling I had with the coach. He trusted me but he didn’t play me, saying I was too young. He said “your time will come” but it didn’t.
‘I’m impatient. Now I want to become one of the best players in the worldHe made just seven senior appearances for United after joining from Le Havre in 2009 but was regarded as one of the best emerging talents at Old Trafford.Pogba recently scored the second goal in a 2-0 win over title rivals Napoli and was named man of the match against Bologna. He was on the bench last weekend when Juve's 49-match unbeaten run was brought to an end by Inter Milan.
Come home, Andy! Pardew reveals he wants to re-sign striker after Hammers loan spell
By COLIN YOUNG PUBLISHED: 17:15 GMT, 9 November 2012 | UPDATED: 23:16 GMT, 9 November 2012
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is convinced striker Andy Carroll will return to the club one day, despite overhauling his squad with the striker's £35million fee. The deal for Carroll to come home was almost pulled off last summer but Newcastle's owners baulked at the terms of a permanent move from Liverpool, and a loan deal was sealed by Sunday's opponents West Ham.Carroll will make his second St James' Park appearance since he was sold in January last year.
Going back: Carroll and Kevin Nolan will return to St James' Park with West Ham on Sunday
They used to love him: Newcastle fans with a not-so-friendly 'welcome' to Carroll last season
The 23-year-old, who returns with two more former Toon figures in team-mate Kevin Nolan and boss Sam Allardyce, is still looking for his first Hammers goal. Pardew said: 'He's a Geordie and I think he misses the city. This is his home and at some point I hope he does come back here. 'Whether that's in my time, I don't know. I like him and I liked working with him. He was brilliant for me.
In happier times: Carroll celebrates scoring against Liverpool at St James' Park in 2010
'I thought there was a possibility of it happening in the summer. He brings something different to the table and we could do with another striker. We were right in there, but we weren't able to get it done.'
Newcastle's fightback for a draw with Bruges in the Europa League on Thursday was further confirmation of the strides the club have made since selling Carroll, who this week suffered the disappointment of being dropped from the England squad.
Pardew added: 'The position we are in is because we used the money from Andy's sale well. He was a brilliant player for us, but the fee was astronomical. We owe a great debt to him.
In good Kompany now: Carroll tackles Manchester City's Vincent Kompany
'He still has a role for England. There are times in international games where an England No 9 can still be a massive threat. People keep talking about the modern game, a loose No 9, the way Spain and Barcelona play, but there is still a place at the highest level for a player of Andy's qualities.'Pardew also paid tribute to former Newcastle captain Nolan, saying he can return to the North East tomorrow 'with his head held high'.
'He is the best finisher I've seen as a midfield player, you have to almost class him as an attacker,' said Pardew. Allardyce, meanwhile, has revealed the depth of his disappointment at being sacked by Newcastle owner Mike Ashley in 2008. He said: 'It was hard to take because the job was the right one. I thought it was the next step, a big club, big fanbase, big budgets. I never saw any of that. 'Your professionalism has been quest ioned, your ability, and it's the damage to your career you've spent years putting together. It's still pretty damaging.'
Even though Carroll was dropped by England on Thursday and has yet to score for West Ham, he seems happier as a player.

Hammers fans have taken him to their heart and legendary former striker Tony Cottee is backing Carroll to score on Tyneside. In his column in the Dockland's and East London Advertiser, Cottee writes: 'Another week has passed with Andy Carroll not scoring, but I'm not at all concerned.'Is he pulling his weight outside the box? Is he holding the ball up? 'Is he bringing others into play? Is he creating chances and getting into the right positions? I think the answer is yes on all fronts.'I did enjoy playing against my old clubs. You want to prove you're still a good player.West Ham's Karren Brady has been named chief executive of the year by FC Business magazine.

Terry is no longer an automatic pick, insists Di Matteo ahead of Chelsea skipper's return
By BEN RUMSBY , Press Association
PUBLISHED: 15:43 GMT, 9 November 2012 | UPDATED: 18:08 GMT, 9 November 2012
Roberto Di Matteo has insisted John Terry was still Chelsea's 'captain and leader' but warned that did not make the defender immune from his squad rotation policy. Di Matteo sprang a huge surprise on Wednesday night by leaving Terry on the bench for the Blues' Champions League victory over Shakhtar Donetsk, arguably the first truly big game their skipper had missed when fit and available for almost a decade.
Back in action: Terry trains at Cobham on Friday ahead of his expected return against Liverpool on Sunday
The official explanation was a lack of match fitness after the 31-year-old was limited to only one competitive outing in a month due to his domestic four-match racism ban.Yet Terry had been thrown back into the deep end after returning from injury and suspension on plenty of occasions in the past, leading some to suggest his omission against Shakhtar might have marked the beginning of the end of his time at the club. But Di Matteo said on Friday: 'He's certainly a fantastic player for us and he will continue to be so and continue to be our captain and our leader when he plays.' However, it is precisely how often that is which is now far from a certainty.
Under pressure: Gary Cahill and David Luiz have played at centre back in Terry's absence
'I don't think anybody's guaranteed a starting place,' Di Matteo said. 'They all have to work and be fighting for their place in the team.'He added: 'We've got a lot of competition in the team and they're all internationals. We've got an England international playing or a Brazil international, or a Serbia international. 'So, all of them are international players that have a lot of quality and they are at a very high level.'Di Matteo also admitted he was wary of the threat posed by 'magnificent' striker Luis Suarez ahead of Liverpool's trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Pole star: Luis Suarez has been described as 'magnificent' by Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo ahead of Liverpool's visit to Stamford Bridge on Sunday
The controversial striker, who has been the standout performer for Liverpool this season scoring 10 goals in 15 games, is sure for a hostile reception. But the Chelsea manager said: 'He’s a magnificent player, and very dangerous. They don’t have many other strikers but they have some young talented players and some experienced players, Glen Johnson, (Martin) Skrtel, (Daniel) Agger, (Steven) Gerrard, (Jose) Enrique are all Premier League players with a lot of games in their legs.'
