‘I was simply too tired’: Singaporeans burnt out from long hours, working on days off and unreasonable bosses

It's s Chinese, Japanese Korean cultural trait. To be submissive to bosses.
And the bosses who does this dunno the business. If he did, there would be long term plans and schedules. Plus targets to achieve.
996 is almost similar to slavery. Most actually too scared to leave doing nothing in the office

yahor. was at shenton way on friday. no smiles no joke no cheerfulness even when weekend was half a day away. all like rats scurrying around and anxious about choping a table for lunch. and then hurrying up to queue up inching forward in the line like lemmings waiting to jump off the cliff. it’s like zombie apocalypse.

Those who opted out of the rat race have barely enough to cover their immediate needs, leaving nothing for future security.

It's pervasive IT and automation which cause the burnout.
10 years ago when I still climbing corporate ladder you can do it with little stress.

Today, you are tracked, scored, labeled.

Employers see everything, from when you clock in, how many online meetings you have, the meeting transcripts, how many deals you close, when you take smoke break, down to what you click and what you type.

So they come up with all kinds of parameters....revenue per headcount, value per hour etc etc

Corporate life today is unkind to humans
