Nope, I don't think this is a smear campaign. SneeringTree has been active in the old SBF and his posts are all with the opposition.

What he posted, whether accurate or not, I think insiders will know.

I think it's time we stopped molly-coddling oppo candidates and pretend they are flawless.

At the same time we must be quick to highlight great personalilties as and when they emerge.

In fact WP has managed to recruit a couple of excellent candidates in the past few months, but it's a great shame the WP leadership choose to keep mum about it. If not, those candidates will be all over the news right now and even hotter than the SAF Merit Scholars.

The massive silence of WP is one great drawback in this instance.

I don't think so - unless they are running for President?

The PAP is moving away from smear campaigns (although not totally). How would people think if the PAP says that they are government scholars but not the PAP types of government scholars. People would be wondering why the very government's SAF gave them scholarships in the first place. The buck will be passed back to the government/PAP, which is to their advantage, most people can't separate PAP from government.

Now that the PAP has expressed that character matters, people can wonder why they gave scholarships to two "integrity-less" persons in the first place.

In fact, I wish the PAP was that stupid, smear these two that way so that we can have more opposition because I guarantee it'll backfire.

Not that PAP has changed its spots but these are soft attributes and less suitable for smearing. PAP tends to go towards integrity and creating doubts about integrity and objective markers like academic results.

Agree. Publicity and awareness building has to be across the board and continuous. Profile building needs time and active citizenry engagement to go the distance.

More importantly WP needs to repair the perception of an unusually quite term of parliament as well as negativity over the WKS and Viswa incidents. Its getting deeper to rub out quickly.

In fact WP has managed to recruit a couple of excellent candidates in the past few months, but it's a great shame the WP leadership choose to keep mum about it. If not, those candidates will be all over the news right now and even hotter than the SAF Merit Scholars.

You are all right; in that this would not be a Chee-type smearing. More like casting aspersions and congratulating themselves for letting the couple leave as their less-than-perfect flaws have been noticed early on in the system.

In other words, there is a check and balance in place for non-performers.

I sure hope this will backfire on the MIW, but I have very little faith with the sheeps that's called Sinkaporeans.

As for the reform scholars, I'm not buying any of the negativity about them yet until more surfaces, and even then I would say everyone has their dark side. Perception of throttles of perfect candidates being rolled out on a red carpet at election time is a PAP gimmick, which i'm sure most forummers can see thru.

Agree on the hatchet man roles but the attempt would be toothless unless TT and HP have been disciplined over probity issues. I expect that RP would ask PAP to spell out what they mean. Except for the ineffectual part, the rest of the attributes are common place with people like Dhanabalan, Richard Hu etc.

I think it's not hard to find little slip-ups like these and blow them up to gigantic proportions. Believe you me, Sinkaporeans will suck it all in.
