Actually there is nothing wrong for general to become politician. The real issue is the selection process. How are these leaders identified.

Leaders are born, not made. No amount of training and nurturing can create a leader. It only produce an manager. Leaders acts on intuition and reacts readily to new situations. Managers look for past solutions to tackle problem.

So much said, the current process can never find a great leader. They want someone obedient. Great leaders are never obedient. Only crooks and fools can be extremely obedient. Crooks will still follow instruction diligently knowing full well it is heading the wrong way as long as himself is not hurt. Fools will just obey and actually believes that he is doing great.

Actually the argument should be that anyone including a fish monger can be politician.

It’s the only other vocation in the world that does not require a formal set of qualifications.

There is also no such thing as a selection process for a politician. Singaporeans for some reason think there is because they read too many stories of PAP tea party.

Some one who wants to run for political office only has to step forward and garner votes.

It’s easier said than done but that’s how much of the free World operates. Look at the Canadian, Australian, British, Kiwi, US and much of the European councils, state legislatures, federal cabinets etc. You see ex school teachers, firemen, retail store owner, scientists, businessmen etc. People from all walks of life.

In Singapore people actually watch too much PAP to see who is going to be called up for the selection process.

I see the same logic freeze when you ask people why they do not want to migrate.

I know that in our minds that it is counter intuitive not to go thru a selection process. We also assume that someone chosen by PSC at age 18 to do his studies overseas are on the inside track.

Old man was a good leader, he had the good luck of having a team of honorable and capable men around him. His greatest mistake was his fear of losing power after he had acquired it. He forgot we are supposed to be a democracy. He forgot the country does not belong to him and his family alone.
