Poverty in Singapore grew from 16 to 28% in one decade...

Based on HK's poverty line, poverty in Singapore is 25.5%

This is substantially higher than the poverty level in Hong Kong which has already implemented minimum income.

The analysis done here in this article is roughly in agreement to using another criteria "half median income".

Using half of median income as a criteria, it is found that poverty has grown from 16% to 28% in 10 years.

Poverty in Singapore affects about 1 in 4 households compared with 19% in HK and 15% in US.

Singapore has the highest rate of poverty among first world countries.
This is not surprising ....27% of Singaporean workers earn less than $1500 per month (source)

There is no poverty in Singapore.

As technology progresses, humans will only get lazier.

People now drive cars, sit buses or trains instead of walking.

They use email, facebook in their homes instead of going out and meeting friends face to face.

They eat heavily processed and unhealthy food unlike our predecessors who ate natural, healthy stuff.

It will only get worse.

A statistical definition of "poverty" is meaningless simply because it's an arbitrary classification of a subjective word.

I can define a "stupid" person as anyone with an 1Q of less than 100 and that would mean that almost 50% of sinkies are morons.

My definition of "poverty" is someone who cannot afford one or more of the basic necessities of life ie food, water, clothing, shelter.

Not being able to afford a smart phone is not "poverty".

So that I could merge all the threads on the same subject.

So there was a bunch of threads on this subject of poverty in sg started by different forummers.

You stickied one thread so that you could somehow merge them all into a single thread.

Must have been tough searching for all the various threads of the same topic started by different forummers.

Sometimes it's easy and other times it's hard. It all depends upon what the search function picks up.
