YESTERDAY IN PARLIAMENT

Khaw lauds EC scheme but will stay vigilant to prevent abuses
He says the scheme is 'wonderful' and relevant

By ong chor hao

THE executive condominium (EC) scheme is a "wonderful" one and should continue, as the government addresses prior abuses, Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan said yesterday.

Responding to queries from Members of Parliament (MPs), he said ECs are relevant, protecting middle-income Singaporeans from competition and ensuring them a market- friendly way to buy condominiums at affordable prices.

"And if I may give an analogy, it's like offering you a Lexus at a Corolla price," he told Parliament.

"But only Singaporeans have this privilege of doing so and they know that in due course the price will go up to Lexus and above Lexus levels."

He forgot to mentioned we still need to pay the COE.

good grief... can send this cow back home?

This proofs the man is outdated. Nobody uses the word Corolla anymore.

It is also possible Singaporeans may be buying lemons.

Staying in landed property with a Lexus parked beside is definitely much better than an EC with a Toyota parked down down below at the parking lots together with other cars...

What the heck is he talking about?

How much does a lexus cost? How much does ferrari cost? Have seen what standard of building you can buy in USA, Japan, Australia, UK, Germany for a EC in SGP?

Cheebye mouth khaw want to spoil Lexus brand knnbccb.

Poor beast!!.

Leave it alone where it is now for the grass here is fresher, greener and easily digestible.

Had it been in Malaysia say in the hands of Datin Sharizat Jalil and her cowboy family, it would have gone hungrier, leaner and finally perish for the feed meant for it would never had reached it but ended up as cash payments for luxury homes, supermarkets and restaurants in Singapore.

Have mercy on poor animals. They always end up as human feed.

Lucky it wasn't TOYOPET

Since the word, LEXUS came out in a Parliamentary discussion, I just wonder how many of our parliamentarians are owners of such an expensive car like Lexus.

This car was introduced into Singapore more then 10 years ago and is more pricier then a Merc during its first introduction here and even today.

I just wonder which parliamentarian was the first to own it then for it will show the status of that person.

Moreover, this is what many readers will want to know.

they build a proton saga
and brand it as a lexus
sell at toyota prices and tell you in your face that it's a bargain!!!

If KBW had acted before the sale of the 2m EC took place, ok. To act after being 'exposed', that is embarrassing. We are paying him too much.

In 2010/2011 when I lived in Toronto for a year, I bot a brand new Lexus 350 for C$36,000 only.

The Lexus 300 in S'pore today costs about S$300,000!

C$1 = S$1.25

Not aware who was the first but I know LKY had one previously.
