So surprised that my Club dont sell pork satay..

SILLY GUY. SATAY IS A MALAY FOOD. You wont find halal bak kut teh because it is chinese food.
By the way, most service industries are complying with minority requirement and stop serving beef and pork. I think aisaisa could be one such airline. just not worth the hassle. Even hospitals are doing this.

Two points :

1) There is halal bah kut teh and in fact nowadays, there are a lot of halal non-Malay food. In fact, the trend already started more than 20 years ago. If you are old enough to remember the famous halal Chinese zhi char at Mackenzie Rd? Where Rex cinema used to be? How about Hawa Restaurant?

2) Your statement "most service industries are complying with minority requirement and stop serving beef and pork" is disturbing if it is true, which I doubt. What kind of businessmen would choose to serve a smaller business base than a larger one, if your logic follows?

My take on why some clubs do away with pork satay rest mainly on one factor: Profitability.
Weight for weight pork are perhaps 3x more expensive than chicken; besides the religion aspect of it..
Oh bro, do you not know that ceratin salad dressings are damned sinful too..mayo stands out as Number One!

Unless the restaurant charges exorbitantly on the food, the bulk of the profits actually comes from beverages. Say for charging 40 bucks plus for a fine steak, count in the chef's salary, condiments, washing, etc. there is very little profit left. Now, if the table orders wine to go with the piece of meat, the mark up for the wine is almost 100%. For satay, whether beef, chicken, mutton, or in this case pork, the labour cost is going the make the material costs miniscule by comparison; and if the demand is low, there is going to be wastage - irrecoverable cost. The religion part of it, I think businessmen will overlook it if money can be made. That's just my personal opinion.

Yes, I do avoid the heavy dressings if I order green salads. I can be satisfied with a vinagarette dressing or a sprinkling of fresh lemon. Have gotten used to fresh crunchy vegetables.

Cheers!

Didn't know that eating vegetables only at night can cause indigestion, I went vegetarian one night, bought salads packs from Cold storage, plus one bottle of Italian dressings...made a bowl of salad with dressings & crotouns, it was yummy!. Went to bed, next day..felt extremely crummy, have to see a doctor, saw my good old family doctor, told him, what I ate last night..he told me "vegetables take a long time to digest" & that was the cause of the stomach upset!!

No wonder, cows, chew grass slowly & don't move too much....

The veggies you had that night could have been tainted with bugs - hence the indigestion. Cows have six or eight stomachs to digest the cellulose. We only have one, Maybe you overstuffed yourself with veggies that one night.

Cheers!

I gave up eating salad or raw vegetables long time ago unless the washing is done at home. MNCs advice their travelling staff the same and they all stay in 5 star hotels. It was not something done in the past but due to the popularity of salad in recent years that this has come to the fore. I certainly take all sorts of vegetables but they must be cooked. It is not worth taking the risk.

The person who cleans the vegetables in the best restaurant is at the bottom of the food chain. It is also often the item that is left in the open in the kitchen. I was told that cleaning of raw vegetables in a hygienic manner requires a lot of steps. Just google.

Better to do sauteed vegetables. Every time I crave for vegetables while travelling, I will end up in a good chinese restaurant for the cooked vegetables.

I know what you mean about eating raw stuff. But I got used to raw salads (what locals here call western style salad) after ataying for a year in uni dorms and eating their cafeteria food. I like the crunch of fresh lettuces, peppers, brocollis, cucumbers etc. I don't care too much for the dressing really. Nowadays I am kinda turned off by cooked veggies - especially those that are simmered in gravies and have the life cooked out of them -especially Indian style veggies. An "in-between" that works good for me are pickles. I especially like the peranakan style pickes.

Cheers!

They mAY BE MALAY BUT THEY ARE NOT MUSLIMS.

Tungku Abdul Rahman (the 1st PM of Malaysia) keeps dogs. Is he not a Muslim? It was he who established the Islamic Welfare Organisation (PERKIM). He is in fact a better Muslim and many others.

There is nothing wrong in keeping dogs for muslims,,just that they need to wash themselves more often,,,
