Cyclists should just keep of the road, Roads are for cars,,

I was told of one accident some years ago of a racing cyclist riding his bike at night in the east coast area. He slammed into the back of a stationary trailer and died on the spot. Now, if he had kept his head up, instead of down - as is the tendency of racing cyclists - he could have spotted the trailer. Equally, a driver of a motorised vehicle with proper headlights would have spotted the trailer.

Accidents happen to various road users. But chances of a catastrophic accident happens disproportionately to those who are far more exposed to the elements.

This chap was only 28 years old and it was his first ride with our group that morning.

After 35 kms of fast ride, he was dropped by the group and being inexperienced he tried to catch up, but I guess he was too tired to be aware of the stationery truck
parked along the Changi Coastal Rd which he slammed onto.

The accident took place at 7.45 am and he was killed on the spot.

Your logic and argument are flawed on so many levels.

First, you can easily replace cyclist with motorcyclist, and even small car drivers in your entire argument. Then the question becomes, what is the minimum size of vehicle to be allowed on road? Only the larges lorries and trucks, I presume? Eventually only the richest men who can afford the biggest and toughest trucks can be allowed on the road. This is the PAP logic.

Next, only a minority of cyclists are a danger to themselves on the road, as otherwise most of cyclists would be dead or maimed by now. Just because I came across a few bad drivers, I don't condemn the entire driving population. Your sweeping statements display your flawed character as well as intelligence.

For your info, many cyclists are drivers too. Cycling is a hobby and a way to reduce pollution because there is no need to lug along a one ton car just for a spin to buy bread or supper.
