My mother had three children. She didn't put herself through any sort of "confinement" whatsoever. She lived to 93.. no arthritis, no headaches, no migranes, no major health problems throughout her life.

Confinement is nothing but a con job. It may be a million dollar industry but so too is religion and that's an even bigger load of bull.

The majority of the people on this earth are idiots and they believe what they want to believe even if there is absolutely no logical evidence for their hair brained perceptions of what life is all about.

Confinement in the Chinese/Asian sense might be a load of bs to you but it was practised during Victorian times, Queen Vic herself was confined after the birth of her 9 children. What form or bed manner did Victorian era confinement take & if it bears any resemblance to the Chinese or indeed if it works, i don't know, you'll have to consult historical medical journals for the answers. Yes, you are right, but getting this cooked right with "power", you need the older generation, their dark soy sauce ginger/vinegar , pigs trotters, taste I don't think we the current generation can cook, never mind finding out where!.

You need very old ginger, hence the term old ginger removes wind...ha ha ha actually I prefer the other dark soy sauce braised pig's trotter with cinammon stick & star anise, a wee bit sugar, salt..vinegar ( lightly)..

The old ginger one too heaty, eat too much, have to see doctor..

The Victorian era also advocated that tight corsets be worn during pregnancy and that bloodletting was a panacea whenever things went wrong.

I still cannot believe that seemingly intelligent people in the 21st century still believe in this confinement bullshit! Why not go the whole hog and bind the feet of your daughters to make them look more dainty.

Firstly sorry about what happenned. Though I agree with Sam, the placebo effect is still important to us and it also shows that her hubby cares very much about her. Thats plays a huge part in her recovery.

Secondly, go to NUH and not to a private gynae. Its has the best research facility and access to equipment and staff that cannot be matched by anyone. They welcome complicated cases as it helps in their research and they are likely to see more such cases and are more likely to find a solution. When there is a complication in a private hospital, they will rush to NUH and you will end up paying exhorbitant private rates. Try to pick a prof. All the movers and shakers go to NUH including the PM, cabinet and Singapore most expensive litigator.

No idea. Died in her sleep. She was fine at 9.30 pm. At 7 the next morning, she was dead. At that age, who cares WHY.

Have checked with a contact. There is a specialist team made up of people from NUH and NUS that handles recurrent miscarriages. Its is headed by A/Prof Mahesh Choolani. You can make an appointment via NUS website and pick him. Also the 3rd time then full scan/investigation is apparently right. Just tell him that your wife may not be able to handle a 3rd episode and the possibility of early investigation is possible.

I know the feeling, i was there, twice. Being strong is one thing, at night, when the doors are
closed and the wife asleep, that was the toughest time for me.

I have to be everyones rock in my family but It was really tough, i totally buried myself in work.

These are trying times indeed, please take care and don't give up on having babies. They brought
meaning to me and completed my life.

I have very little regrets now and who knows, soon i can go in peace.

Yes Singaporeans should give up Confinement & any other cultural traditions that we still cling on to, we should strive to be cultureless, bland & state functioning automatons, regardless of race, language or religion, we should be addressed by our IC numbers & jump when ordered to.. here's what i'd say to that.. swivel on my Tua LanJiao :oIo:

KNN if the seemingly intelligent people of Singapore chose to continue this tradition, so be it.. who are we to argue! As far as i know, it's not detrimental to health & connects the younger generation to the older generation through learning to cook, learning to care for the baby & most importantly learning to be a mother/parent. The purpose of Confinement is to rest & spend time with the newborn & learn from the elders about motherhood, very useful if you're a first time mother/parent. Of course certain practices need updating to suit our modern lifestyle but this is minor compared to what a first time mother will learn from an experienced confinement amah, not to forget the celebration at the end of the month! Many of my Angmo friends raise an eyebrow over things like not bathing but on the whole, they see it as a positive thing & wished they had something similar in their culture! If you can't agree on this maybe we can agree to disagree!

Hi brother, my wife's gynae was from NUH. I have nothing to complain about the gynae, very reassuring. Even though she did not do the abortion in the end, she still made an effort to visit my wife in the operation theatre. Even she was surprise that the fetus had died as the last scan showed it to be very healthy. The only minus point was that the waiting time inside the theatre is too long and some of the nurses was not professional. But the doctors were very professional.

You are right about the food part also. Even if the food did not matter to get health, but it means a lot to her that I care. She was surprise to see me chop a chicken the first time in my life. She is coping well, at least for now. Thanks for letting me know about the specialist team. I will check with NUH. You are right. I don't think we can handle a 3rd episode.
