HDB is not a local issue, it is personal, as you can't pay, you get kicked out
Sinkapore is so small, everything is local. When it hits you personally, it is local. The Opposition candidates can personalize the message. For example, they could educate the residents who have working adult children to the fact that their kids will have to work forever to pay off the expensive flats. Show that the flats are getting smaller and cost more. Then point out how much money the PAP TC gets in funding from the government and yet the fees are much higher than the ward run by the opposition TC which had NO government funding for two years. Bit by bit, chip away on the myth that the PAP is efficient, cares for the people.
The opposition could also make videos to convey these points and post it on youtube.

health care likewise, now it will be getting worse, you can't pay the premium for your health insurance, you can not even leave here, unless you go out in a box!.
Opposition can frame it to show how this scheme is not for the welfare of sinkees but for the benefit of the government. Your public health insurance doesn't cover a good number of common procedures; so you still have to end up saving for those events. The question is what is the purpose of public health insurance when it provides only partial coverage.

Foreigners flooding our country is not new, I experienced this in 1984, with the 'floods of Malaysians' I have to battle for jobs then, in 1996, with the 'deluge of others' especially the pinoys, the ah nehs....difficult to fill a 'rice bowl' & have to pay bills, especially those to be given to a government, that gladly & gayly welcumed these 3rd world people who sits squarely on jobs, meant for "you".
The Malaysian flood is nothing compared to the current P(inoy)A(h)T(iong)A(h)N(eh) aka PATAN TSUNAMI.

That's personal....but it is those 60% who are blind to see, deaf to hear & thick in the skull does not understand. They are the ones who will be freely be cheated, for example " buying $3.80 freshly brewed soya milk, which were poured from $1.50 litre Yeo Hiap Seng Soya Milk Drink packs, the same type of packaging in which the MIW's had been marketing for the last few decades.

This is a golden opportunity to kick those greedy bastards out of office. Sinkees need to be led and it is up to the opposition to show that they can lead. Playing safe like the WP is not the way to go. SDP, RP, Singfirst should share resources to develop the educational material in video and start doing the social media rounds to humtum the PAP. Ground troops should fan out to walk the blocks with the material to educate sinkees. The battle is won on the ground.

Is this personal enough?
Getting rid of the PAP is a personal fight for me and for every sinkee.

In the past, I had an argument with a civil servant, whom I found out, has a Ll.B., but was not called to the bar.
I disagreed with him referring to himself as a lawyer, because I said that he has a law degree, but is not a lawyer.
He appeared arrogant and tried to give me a hard time.
Therefore, I believe that I should inform his superior.

I believe you are correct.

He is a law graduate, not a lawyer. In Singapore context, one must be called to the Bar and admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court in order to be considered a lawyer. You can then say he is a "trained" lawyer, but not a practicing lawyer.

In between a law graduate and a lawyer, one has to go through a practicing law course, serve 6 months pupilage, admission to the Bar.

So I guess the WP girl being referred to as a trained lawyer implies that she is not practicing law at the moment.

It was so long ago, and therefore, I am unaware of the Singapore's system.
In Toronto, an individual has to article as a law student for about one year, pass the bar admission course, and call to the Bar.
It is preferable that they clarify.
May be better to indicate that she has a law degree from Cambridge, or a law degree from Cambridge and admitted to whatever "inn or temple", or called to bar, but not practising as a lawyer, or working as an in-house counsel.
I believe it is better to be more specific, more so, if she is a lawyer.

it reads "Cambridge Uni Trained, Lawyer" .... not "Cambridge Uni, Trained Lawyer"

Look at the title of the thread again - Cambridge Uni Trained Lawyer.

There is no comma after the word "trained". It should have been hyphenated as in "Cambridge University-trained lawyer".

Anyway, mothershipsg was more correct to describe her as:

She is He Ting Ru, a 32-year old Cambridge University-educated corporate lawyer.

She was recently featured in WP Youth Wing (WPYW)’s website and is the Secretary of the WPYW Executive Committtee.

The Workers' Party (WP) is standing firm on contesting Marine Parade GRC and MacPherson SMC after a "concrete proposal" to avoid a three-cornered fight with the National Solidarity Party (NSP) in the two constituencies was rejected, WP chairman Sylvia Lim said.

Ms Lim confirmed a Straits Times report that the WP offered to not stand in MacPherson at the next general election in exchange for the NSP not contesting in Marine Parade, and said the proposal was conveyed to the NSP before the first round of talks between opposition parties on Monday.

But the NSP rebuffed the offer on Monday, she said yesterday at a walkabout in a market in MacPherson ward, which has been carved out of Marine Parade GRC.

"We felt on assessment that it would not be productive to attend the subsequent meeting that was held on Thursday," she said.

The WP will not wait for a further response from the NSP: "Time is of the essence to us so we will have to go ahead with working (the ground) in both areas."

NSP president Sebastian Teo could not be reached for comment, but said previously that his party aimed to discuss the matter with the WP.

Ms Lim thanked the Democratic Progressive Party "for making way for WP" to contest in Fengshan SMC against the People's Action Party (PAP).

A second round of talks among opposition parties on Thursday on three-cornered fights ended with 26 out of 29 constituencies headed for straight fights between one of them and the PAP.
But it remains to be seen whether the three others - Marine Parade GRC, MacPherson SMC and Ang Mo Kio GRC - will have three-cornered contests come Nomination Day. Opposition parties have tried to avoid such contests as these split the anti- PAP vote, reducing their chances of winning.

Among the WP members and volunteers at yesterday's walkabout were Non-Constituency MP Yee Jenn Jong, who is expected to lead the WP's Marine Parade GRC team, and lawyer Terence Tan, 43, who has been on house visits with Mr Yee. Medical social worker Frieda Chan, 39, who gave birth to a boy six months ago, was also present. She was in the 2011 WP team that contested Moulmein-Kallang GRC.

Several new faces were also spotted: holding company chief executive Luke Koh, 40; wealth manager Dylan Ng, 40; corporate lawyer He Ting Ru, 32; and sales consultant Cheryl Denise Loh, 32.

PAP activists on their regular walkabout were also at the same market to give out Singapore flags ahead of National Day, and ran into the WP team. Both sides exchanged greetings and posed for photos.
PAP MacPherson branch secretary Rosemary Lim said they were carrying on with the work while MP Tin Pei Ling, who gave birth on Wednesday, is on maternity leave.
The WP also visited Geylang Serai Market in Marine Parade GRC.

Other opposition parties also had walkabouts in areas where they aim to contest: The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) was in Holland- Bukit Timah GRC, the Singaporeans First (SingFirst) party in Tanjong Pagar GRC, and the Reform Party (RP) in Ang Mo Kio GRC.

SDP chief Chee Soon Juan said the party would launch its revamped website and party song next week, while SingFirst chief Tan Jee Say said his party would release its line-up only on Nomination Day.

RP chief Kenneth Jeyaretnam was visiting blocks in Ang Mo Kio with a team that included blogger Roy Ngerng. Accompanying them was blogger and activist Han Hui Hui, who is not a party member.

[h=2]Is He Ting Ru WP’s secret weapon against PAP’s Tin Pei Ling and NSP’s Kevryn Lim?[/h] Aug 08, 2015 alvinology * news, dirty old man, featured, GE 2015, Singapore heartland 0

Not only is it one of the only constituencies which will see a multi-corner fight (People’s Action Party (PAP), National Solidarity Party (NSP) and Workers’ Party (WP) have all expressed interest to contest), it could potentially be a showdown of three beauties – Tin Pei Ling, 31, from PAP, Kevryn Lim, 26, from NSP, and now, He Ting Ru, 32, from WP.Much has been written about Tin in GE 2011.
Most of the comments were negative and she was even given the dismissive nickname, “Kate Spade”, referring to a viral image of her showing off a Kate Spade handbag. Since then, she had worked very hard on the ground in Macpherson where she is the current MP and also earned her stripes in parliament by frequently fielding questions. The residents in Macpherson appear to connect well with her, especially the elderly. It will be foolish to write her off as a political lightweight for the coming election as she is very different from the newbie she was in 2011.

Tin has just given birth to a SG50 baby boy btw – congratulations to her and her lucky husband!
Kevryn Lim runs her own events company and is a one of the fresh new faces which the NSP is introducing for the coming election. Will the NSP be fielding Lim in Macpherson against Tin?
NSP has expressed their intent to contest in Macpherson. It’s a pity their biggest star in 2011, Nicole Seah, 28, had stated she would not be running in this election. As such, maybe Lim would be the next best choice for NSP to field against Seah’s perceived arch-nemesis in 2011, Tin Pei Ling.
Lim graduated from the Curtin University in Hong Kong with a Masters in Professional Communication. Prior to her graduate studies, she studied Fashion Design & Product Development at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She said in a recent media interview that she would like to champion transport and education issues if elected.

Lim has worked as a part-time model in her younger days and some of her racier photos have since surfaced, drawing criticism from the conservative public and lewd remarks from perverts. So far, she seems to be coping okay and taking things in strides.
He Ting Ru is a Cambridge-educated corporate lawyer who had lived and worked in several countries. She has recently been seen walking the ground in Macpherson with the WP team.
She joined the WP because she “strongly believe that all of us have to play our part in building the type of country we want.”
“Singapore needs to be a more balanced democracy. There should be no place for divisive politics. We are all Singaporeans who call this our home, no matter our differing views or beliefs. I hope we in the WP will be able to work together with Singaporeans to make this a reality.” Shared He in a interview with the WP Youth Wing.
Not much else is known about her as the WP is usually very tight-lipped about their strategies and also keep a close guard on the public image of their potential election candidates. Will she be fielded in Macpherson against PAP’s Tin and NSP’s Lim?
Already, comparisons are coming fast and furious in the prolific EDMW forum, with many pointing out that He looks rather like local TV celebrity, Rui En from some angles:

Are you envious of the residents of Macpherson?
They may have not just two, but THREE BEAUTIES competing for their votes! What do we have? We get the likes of Roy Ngerng, Goh Meng Seng and Lui Teck Yew.If given a choice, who would you choose between the three to represent your voice in parliament?
Thank you for voting!

WP's He Ting Ru 70.15%

PAP's Tin Pei Ling 26.87%

NSP's Kevryn Lim 2.98%

You worked and lived overseas for several years. Why did you come back?
Having lived and worked in different countries for many years, I decided it was time to come home. Singapore is where my family is. This is where my roots are.
Why did you join the WP?
I joined the WP because I strongly believe that all of us have to play our part in building the type of country we want.
So what type of country do you want?
Singapore needs to be a more balanced democracy. There should be no place for divisive politics. We are all Singaporeans who call this our home, no matter our differing views or beliefs. I hope we in the WP will be able to work together with Singaporeans to make this a reality.

Seems like MacPherson SMC is gonna be one of the key battlegrounds in the upcoming GE.

With TPL flying solo without the help of Woody and Fatimah in Marine Parade she will have a real fight on her hands.
