WC 2010 qual. - South America
October 15 2008
FT Paraguay 1 - 0 Peru
FT Chile 1 - 0 Argentina
FT Brazil 0 - 0 Colombia
FT Venezuela 3 - 1 Ecuador

Look at Brazil, previous match beat Venuzuela 4-0 away, today drawing with Colombia at home. Their home's form is not good, they perform better away from home,no consistency here.

In the European zone, England and Spain are running away with 4 consecutive wins each. Though a game short of the halfway mark, it's hard to imagine how these two countries can fail to qualify for World Cup 2010 with such a headstart.

Traditional powers Germany and Italy are also well on track. It's also hard to imagine any World Cup without them qualifying. Sorely missing from the leaders is France, now lying 4th in Group 7 with 4 points -1 goal, though with a game in hand.

In the South America zone, Paraguay has practically qualified with a huge 7 to 10 points lead over the chasing pack. Meaning that they can take 3 consecutive defeats and still qualify. How not to qualify? Unless they lose every game from now.

For the European zone, there're 9 groups. All 9 group winners will qualify for the World Cup finals. Out of the 9 group runners-up, the best 8 will have to play-off for 4 more qualifying berths. For the South America zone, there's only one group, i.e. league style. The top 4 will qualify for the World Cup finals and the 5th will have to play-off with a North American country.

Atcually, Brazil-Colombia game was very predictable. Everyone taught brazil is going to romp another 4-0 win esp playing at home. Odds was -1.5. very delicious. Took Colombia +1.5 & +1.25 & played Unders at 3, 2.5, 2.25 & 1. I must thank the kelong brazilians for making me so much money on this game alone!!!!!!

Apparently, Brazil and Argentina are not taking things too seriously. Topping the group is not their agenda. Just qualify will do.

Did you watched the game? The Brazilians had the most possession (and coming close) in the first 20min or so. After that euphoria, Colombia settled in quickly & revert from a 4-5-1 to a strangely 5-3-2. (Are they really going to win it, the Colombians?)
Whatever the coach, Eduardo Lara, the tactics worked.

No, I didn't. Colombia's form in the qualifying games so far has been well below par, and doesn't look like going to qualifying. A victory over Brazil might rekindle their campaign, but too bad it wasn't to be.

The Africa, North America and Oceania zones are still in their preliminary stages, not yet in their final group stages.
