I admire Alpha S. These pilots have everything to lose. They are standing up for the lower level staff. Sadly not many forumners know that significance.
Many forumners and sinkees don't know the significance,no medicine can cure them.

What can the pilots union do when airlines are already dead?
The pilots are making a point that SIA Mgmt must shoulder a bigger part of the burden. If pilots got to take 23% cut of basic salary (pilots already get zero flight allowances) and lower staff get 10% cut, then CEO must be cut more. Dont forget this is just the first cut. More cuts to come

They are cutting cost way too slow. Other airlines have furloughed their staffs a long time ago. Meaning zero pay.

Why would SIA hedge when oil cannot go upwards of usd70 or 80/ bbl? The mo ent it touches those figures, fracking concessions will restart.
Just run the business based on oil at oil at usd80. If its lower, you get a bonus. If it bets any higher due to force majeure or act if god, then just fuel surcharge on top like what US airlines are doing.
There was a time when people said that oil cannot below $70 a barrel. But it did.

if ceo were to cut 100% of his salary and bonus it wouldn’t make up for tens of thousands of workers’ pay. unless if you have 6.9k ceos. do the math.

It is the spirit of willingness to take responsibility and willingness to take a bigger pay cut that will send the right message down the line. As discussed earlier in this thread, CEO asking to take 35% of pay cut doesnt sound good. If he is willing to take 75% cut, then others will be more willing to accept whatever that comes their way. This is called, 'lead by example'

Agree that pap doesnt lead by example. With 61% dying soon and younger and educated turning 21, more GRCs like SengKang will fall. That is why I expect them to be voted out soon. The inside story is that no minister wants to helm a new GRC that has a huge proportion of younger voters. This is the sad story for the pap. It is losing its support base of older singaporeans who are loyal to LKY. PAP's tactics turn younger and educated voters off. It is only naive singaporeans like John Tan who support pap. This shows that pap's strategy of throwing public money to running dogs does work for gullible Singaporeans. But this strategy is becoming obsolete

The SIA Pilots Association (SIAPA) is NOT affiliated to NTUC and it really fight for the rights ,benefits and interests for its members. It is a real union negotiating against the management. It is NOT a fake union like NTUC.
Very good.
Any union what wishes to take care of its own interests, may wish to remain independent, because the in the past decades, the Secretary General of the NTUC has always been a member of the PAP.
Keep it up.

Will pap allow Singapore Unions who are truly independent? ALPHA S may be the last and only Union to dare to challenge PAP
