<!-- end left side bar --> <!-- story content : start --> THE Health Sciences Authority (HSA) has suspended the tobacco licence of a recalcitrant retailer for selling cigarettes to an underaged customer. Mr Cheau Biau Teck, the owner of M/s Cheau Provision Store at Block 238, Serangoon Avenue 2, will be barred from selling tobacco products from Nov 23 to May 23 next year. This was the second time he was caught for the offence. He was also fined $2,500 in court after he admitted selling a packet of cigarettes to an adult despite knowing that the cigarettes were purchased on behalf of an underaged youth. HSA reminds all tobacco retailers that it is an offence to sell tobacco products to persons below the age of 18, whether directly or with the help of an adult. Offenders can be fined up to $5,000 for the first conviction and up to $10,000 for the second or subsequent conviction. Their tobacco retail licences will also be suspended or revoked if they or their employees repeat the offence. HSA also encourages members of the public who have information on the sales of tobacco products to underage youth, to call the Tobacco Regulation Unit hotline at Tel: 62138930 or 62138931 during office hours or e-mail to [email protected].
