By now most of us have seen the new full length trailer for The Hunger Games, and so has Movies.com‘s Perri Nemiroff, who not only wrote their own review, but collected the reactions from the fan sites, including us, to see what the overall opinion was of this epic trailer.

Movies.com

First, from the obsessive fan side of me – wow. I’m quite literally blown away by how well the imagery matches what I’ve been picturing all along. Then, Lionsgate takes it one step further by pinpointing the perfect assortment of scenes to both appeal to the hardcore fans and provide newcomers with just enough information to feel as though they can now have one foot in the door without knowing too much.

[...On the technical front, the trailer is impeccable. Not only is the editing quite slick, but the score does a fantastic job at nailing the film’s tone.]

Movies.com: The Fans Weigh In on ‘The Hunger Games’ Trailer

We absolutely loved the trailer! It touched on the major points of The Hunger Games, the reaping, the Capitol itself, the ‘fire dress,’ the start of a rebellion with the three-finger salute, the drive for survival and the countdown to the start off the games. The Reaping was perfectly grim and eerie, and a wonderful contrast to the colorful and vibrant Effie who gives us a taste of what we will fully see at the Capitol. We really wanted to see the Cornucopia, but we must leave something for the theatrical release! We felt the trailer was able to deliver the plotline without giving too much away, so we believe it was a success!

‘The Hunger Games’ will Screen in China!

Each year in China 20 foreign films are ‘okayed’ by authorities to be seen on the big screen and The Hunger Games will be one of 20! The Hollywood Reporter also reported that Lionsgate already has a plan for merchandising:

Katniss be seen on the big screen and The Hunger Games will be one of 20! The Hollywood Reporter also reported that Lionsgate already has a plan for merchandising:

With much hinging on how The Hunger Games performs in theaters, Lionsgate is also eyeing an aggressive merchandising program to emerge alongside a lucrative movie franchise from the teen book trilogy.

Vancouver-based Lionsgate has lined up Striker Entertainment, the same licensing and merchandising agency that handles the Twilight franchise for Summit Entertainment.

“We have the same A-team on board. With their guidance, we will be strong in specialty stores, be very present, but not over-push merchandise going into the theatrical release,” Drake told analysts.

The strategy is to first establish the theatrical movie brand before advancing aggressively into big box retailers with The Hunger Games merchandise.

Lionsgate executives also met with international distribution partners at the American Film Market last week, screening the trailer for The Hunger Games and discussing a global day-and-date release pattern.

Much to the relief of "Hunger Games" fans worldwide, Lionsgate finally has debuted its first full-fledged trailer for the dystopian adventure due out March 23.

In a few short minutes we meet vulnerable but strong heroine Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and her fellow tribute Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) and see the ostentatious Capitol that serves as a brilliant contrast to the poor, drab environments that make up District 12, from which both Mellark and Everdeen hail.

For "The Hunger Games" uninitiated, Suzanne Collins' bestselling novel depicts a future in which the opulent Capitol rules the planet and the majority of districts are impoverished nations that must serve the central government. As a reminder of a previous uprising against the Capitol, an annual "Hunger Game" contest is put into place in which two youths between ages 12 and 17 from each of the 12 districts are forced to compete in a brutal fight to the death. As the trailer says, only one comes out.

Director Gary Ross seems to have gone all out in capturing the Capitol's opulence with the garish Effie Trinket, played by Elizabeth Banks, cheerfully determining the fates of these impoverished kids. We see quick glimpses of Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman and Wes Bentley as Seneca Crane, and we also get a quick peek at Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, a previous Hunger Games winner, now a useless drunk who serves as Peeta and Katniss' biggest ally.

Katniss' District 12 pal, and unrequited love, Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth), is given prominent placement in the trailer, suggesting that the character who mostly appears in Katniss' memories throughout the book will receive some solid screen time in the upcoming movie.

The Hunger Games Giant Snow Globe in Singapore

There’s a very cool Hunger Games promotion running in Singapore. Apparently at The Cathay you can hop inside their Giant Snow Globe and have a Hunger Games picture taken.
This picture has been posted on Hunger Games Singapore…. who are also organising a Hunger Games fan meet up at The Cathay for everyone to make their way into the globe for a group shot!

UPDATE: We realized fan sites have taken the picture of children in ‘The Hunger Games’ snow globe which we have previously posted in previous post and spread it around the internet. As we do not know the children in question, we are not sure if their parents or the children themselves will be happy to see their picture spreading around. Thus, we kindly request all fan sites to replace it with this picture of Hunger Games Singapore staff in ‘The Hunger Games’ snow globe or ‘The Hunger Games’ snow globe picture as shown below instead. Thank you.

We had reported about ‘The Hunger Games’ snow globe at The Cathay earlier today and not long after that, we went there for a picture!

As previously mentioned, this ‘The Hunger Games’ snow globe will be on display from 17 November 2011 to 25 December 2011.

You would have to purchase a S$5 coupon from The Cathay information counter at Level 1. A single coupon will entail 4 person to enter the ‘The Hunger Games’ snow globe where a professional photographer will take a photo memento like the one below!

That is not all! You can also redeem a box of ‘The Hunger Games’ poker cards with the coupon at The Cathay information counter! Unfortunately, you can only redeem a box of ‘The Hunger Games’ poker cards with each coupon.

If you are wondering what are the terms and conditions as well as all the details for the best experience for ‘The Hunger Games’ snow globe, we got that covered. Take a look at the photo below which has all the information that you need to know.

While many would have been attracted to ‘The Hunger Games’ snow globe (we don’t blame you!) which was placed at the center of the attraction, Hunger Games Singapore staff Trish managed to spot those little clues left all over The Cathay shopping mall to signify that ‘The Hunger Games’ will be arriving in Cathay Cineplexes soon.

For example, take a look at the picture below. It looks like the previous picture except upon taking a closer look, you will realize the pillar that is covered in Christmas tree design in the right side of the picture has not any usual Christmas ornaments hanging from the tree. That is Mockingjay ornaments!

In fact, all the pillars surrounding ‘The Hunger Games’ snow globe are covered in the same Christmas tree designs with Mockingjay ornaments.

Last but not least, these little posters are pasted on the glass doors of the lifts in The Cathay informing people about ‘The Hunger Games’ snow globe on display. It also includes a brief information on ‘The Hunger Games’ movie too!

What do you think? We think it’s certainly great promotion step taken by Cathay Organization and we are excited to see what they have up on their sleeves next!
