Singapore Citizenship Journey to be launched as pilot project in 3 GRCs
SINGAPORE : The Singapore Citizenship Journey will be launched this month as a pilot project in three Group Representation Constituencies — Tanjong Pagar, West Coast and Sembawang.
It includes an e—learning module to help new citizens learn more about Singapore.
Replying to MPs who spoke on national integration, Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said on Wednesday that all prospective citizens will have to go on the Singapore Citizenship Journey.
He said having a more structured naturalisation process will ensure that they understand and appreciate the pillars of national identity and values.
They also have to complete an online module in English, as it is the common working language here.
Dr Balakrishnan stressed that the government wants to encourage new citizens to be proficient in English as it will help them communicate better with the different communities. — CNA/ms
