NParks' bikes too costly?

The National Parks Board (NParks) has bought 26 Brompton bicycles, for $2,200 each, for its officers to use on patrols.

But some Singaporeans are asking if the chosen bikes are too expensive, while others are unhappy at the tender process for the bikes.

NParks has defended its decision, saying the bikes were bought to boost staff productivity and that it adhered to government procurement requirements.

Bicycle shop owners say there are cheaper alternatives that will serve the same purpose.

It's easy for organisations which are spending someone else's money.

maybe these useless sinkie civil servants went to "tzng" the bikes thats why the costs shot up?

.....want to fix gps la, add shock absorbers la, fix bottle cages and then buy water bottles la, maybe even have something totally useless like a small fan to blow on their retarded sinkie faces when they ride....

many many things to add because its ah kong's money you know... if their masters can anyhow squander money why can't they do their kacang puteh part ....

That's possible but based on the photo featured in the article, it looks pretty much like they bought the base 3 speed model.

Why can't they just spend under $200 for any of those China bikes? You can already get up to at least 18 speeds.

original article:

 据本报了解,公园局今年初向脚踏车公司BikeHop购买了26辆折叠脚踏车。这批脚踏车是英国品牌布朗登(Brompton)六速折叠车,每辆价格2200元

is that SGD or Yuan? If Yuan that's SGD400 only

Cool it all you twit, we have to trust our clean government. The $2.2 per bike includes free spare parts and maintenance crew supposedly from the United Kingdom for 24 months. This is to boost morale and productivity.

Kingrant, these could possibly be Chinese bikes afterall, you expect the Brits to still make bikes now? Fucking NEA should spend just a few thousand dollars to attend the Canton Fair (China Import and Export Fair that happens twice a year) and get bikes as good as these cost this fair features many factories making bikes for foreigners.
