CAR DEALER LAUNCHES NEW SCHEME TO REDUCE SINGAPOREAN CAR BUYERS’ WORRIES
Car boutique to offer financial protection for car buyers who face retrenchment.

Taking a page from similar offerings by Hyundai USA, a local car boutique has come up with a scheme to help customers pay for their car loans if they get retrenched.

With retrenchment numbers in Singapore totaling 12,600 in the first quarter of 2009, and a once-booming car industry that forecasts at least a 24.2 percent drop in sales this year, local car dealers are seeking ways to restore confidence in consumers.

“The turbulent economy and worries over potential job loss is holding back many Singaporeans from purchasing a car.” said Mr. Jesse Tan, managing director for Cars & Stars Pte Ltd. “It is now up to car dealers to assure consumers that they can still achieve their dreams of driving without fear, and that is why we have implemented this scheme to help our customers.”

The new scheme, called the Retrenchment Protection Plan, is currently offered by Cars & Stars Pte Ltd for their customers exclusively. According to Mr. Jesse Tan, this scheme can help protect customers on three fronts, namely financial protection, car ownership and credit rating protection, and peace-of-mind protection.

Once a customer who is protected under this scheme gets retrenched, he or she can choose to activate the protection, and Cars & Stars will assist in paying his or her car loan installments for a period of time. Only when the customer has secured new and stable employment, will he or she be asked to repay the assistance on reasonable terms.

The Retrenchment Protection Plan will officially launch on the 22nd of May, and for a one month only promotion period, administrative charges and repayment interest rates will be waived for new customers.
