Bro the Kate Spade entry must be the most embarrassing to the whole nation. I understand that Chris de Souza and VB in hot soup for nominating her and the donkey who spent 8 hrs doing her psycho profiling.

Really sad for Chiam. Must hold a ticker tape parade for this grand old man of Singapore Opposition Politics. I reckon when he kicks the bucket this nation will weep and mourn for days.

Most disappointing to me are:

1. Entry of TPL and FMH into parliament
2. Mah, WKS, yacob and LSS escaped the knife and can stay smug
3. The Chiams lost it all.
4. VW's team losing margin not close enough to scare VB who remains cocky
5. KJ and his RP fatal debut
6. Loss of Zainal Abidin Rashid who cld have been a good Spkr
7. The Opp didnt get more seats
8. GMS lacklustre performance

Happiest to me;

1. GCT got a dressing down from voters
2. HG was solid despite Yaw's vote for Teo HP record
3. Low's gamble paid off and won big
4. PAP was taught a lesson

I've done my best for Chiam. Three votes from my household went to him. But we're not surprised that he lost. Expected.

thank you bro for supporting him, i will be going to PP now for his parade. We have not lost him entirely yet, he is still around for us, for Singapore.

My heart sank very low last night when he lost, even knowing that WP won Aljunied :(

Bro, hand cannot move. I tried on the second day - massive mental block. Might have to move mic to a more interesting location like VB's house or TCH's sprawling mansion.

VB's house? I reckoned you might score a higher chance inside the church's confession room.

the movers & shakers of tomorrow within the PAP ranks would still be the crown prince after all. Woody is all but alone, reforms need seconders & much more support from the ground.

the prince is finally chartering his own path now as I see it, the shepard lost his sheep :eek::eek:

This is as good a result as I can realistically hope for, and sets the stage nicely for 2016.

PAP lost its first ever GRC

But just as importantly, there are now 6 other PAP GRCs and 4 other SMCs that are now reclassified as marginal

From 75.3% of the popular vote in 2001 to 66.6% in 2006 to 60.1% in 2011.

Continuation of the longterm trend means there is no less than 32 additional seats at risk of falling to opposition hands in the next election

A PAP majority of only 49-38, or even 44-42, is very plausible in the next GE. And the best thing about this is, PAP don't even need to screw up to get this scenario, I believe we'll get there as long as PAP fails to improve things significantly. And none of the problems, I believe, are easily fixable within 5 years.

I am very heartened by the results

hahaha....there is hope for the future....either papee changes or opp gets stronger and wins more seats...
however there is simply far too opp parties....stretching the already limited resources...
even papee claimed that they do not have enough talents for A and B teams.....
as WP and other opp parties continue to grow, potential 3 corner fights are bound to happen
in future GEs....this is the bigger problem I foresee.

GE2011 reinforced the fact that branding is equally important in politics....
WP candidates averaged around 46.6%....a very respectable figure.

Hmmm I am not so optimistic. You can't extrapolate 2001,2006,2011 into 2015/2016. PAP chief booboos are too many FT and high cost of HDB. Despite all speeches and apologies, every time one steps into the MRT, the crowds remind you what a shit job they have been doing. So for the average guy, you are reminded 2x a day. I would expect these issues to be resolved by then. If not, PAP must be really daft. New time-bombs are the social effects of the casino which will not be light as time passes... Having FT citizens may be a double edged sword for PAP. Singaporeans are sheep, you do not get a more obedient group of people anywhere else. New citizens will likely demand their pound of flesh as well.

I would say the chances of PAP getting an increased majority is high. Which is why the opposition needs to up it's game considerably. More donation drives, more grassroots activities... The entire goddamn PA and community centers are a PAP machine. Workers party need to create their own network and reach out to the weak GRCs. I am heartened to see TOC and Temasek Review gaining momentum and hope better writers and sources volunteer during this period. To do better than 40% is not impossible but it entails a lot of work.

The smaller parties should be collapsing by now. SPP may get a last five years in Parliament through NCMP if Lina Chiam takes it up, but I don't see anyway she can sustain and build the party. SDA has already been in total collapse since SPP and NSP withdrew, as more than sufficiently evidenced by Desmond Lim losing deposit. SDP didn't have to much good result to shout about, but with CSJ resourcefulness as to funding and creativity catering a niche, it should be around. NSP underperformed by GMS pre-election claims. Against MBT, he scored even lower than Nicole Seah against GCT. To be fair, both crossed the 40% mark. Sebastian Teo is an embarrassment and Steve Chia is a disappointment. NSP have to look into leadership and organization restructuring if they want to remain relevant instead becoming another SDA/SJP.

actually, i am interested to know how the malays vote affect the results in the GRCs that the WP contest in. As always blasted in the GAMMs, WP is a chinese dominated party despite JBJ was once sec-gen of the party. The following are the few points i noticed from nomination day to polling day.

1. There an increase of malays voters in Aljunied GRC due to gerrymandering,

2. There an visible increase in the number of malay attending WP's rallies,

3. On the way to WP rallies, parking wardens of malay descent openly cheer WP supporters,

4. In a Hougang hdb carpark, a malay carpark warden openly told me he voted for WP when he saw me holding a WP flag heading for the stadium.

5. And of course, many malays families were in hougang stadium awaiting polling result.

it seems the malays swing vote could be substantial as lhl look visible irritated when a jurno ask him question regarding the speaker and the WP malay candidate. lhl reply in a puff and storm off the stage without thanking the reporters to conclude the press conference.

i attended many WP rallies since 1988, these the first time i see so many malays in WP events. If can help more malays see the light, then i wish lky long life and healthy enough to issue statements to threaten voters plus hope pap continue to use the current corp of ministers till the next GE.

btw, someone i knew who live near boonkeng market told me that no porn lui victory parade on a duck tour open top double decker bus was not well received by the residents.

anyway looking at the result of GE 2011, The East is Red. (WP traditional color)

WP is the only solid party that really works like clockwork and no different from a disciplined army unit. SPP is too over-reliant on Chiam and this has shown when voters voted to kick Lina out of PP. People only vote for Chiam and not for SPP, which is dangerous. It might be better if SPP and NSP merge after the retirement of Chiam to form one strong party.

the biggest winner in GE11 is LHL...the biggest loser is GCT...i won't be surprised if he is sidelined at the next GE...i get the impression that HC played a vital role in the bkgrd...oh n i must say how surprised i was to see FMH go under the radar the entire GE11 period even after such a vitriolic attack in cyberspace...no doubt NS was the darling of the oppos n justifiably so...respect to LTK n Sylvia for running an excellent campaign...admire CST's resillience n tenacity...a bright spot on the horizon for PAP appears to be BG Tan, difficult not to like him fm his hustings play...

Dear Por

I believe that egg on GCT face was an accident of fate. Firstly GCT did take TT on LHL urging but I believe in a quid pro pro deal as GCT wanted a BG for his power base. From the comments on the net he chose the better one. However big the risk it was to take on TPL it seemed a managable risk because the NSP was a cobbled together last min team and in all probability his reputation would have intimitaed anyone else.

The fact THAT NSP contested him a surprise, the fact that Nicole Seah did not BOMB but shot like a rocket was another and thats how GCT crashed and burned to 56 against unknowns. To many variables :_))

I think Faisal was a good candidate. LTK picked him to be in the Aljunied team is not just because he is a minority candidate.

Whether he is a token malay or he can hold his own waits to be seen, I have no idea of his background but likely he will be assigned to the kaki bukit side where there are more malays. His own personal platform would have to be highlighting the malay issues and championing for them as a whole as well as the individual families in his ward.

Chen show mao likely to be at the serangoon area to appeal to the heartlanders as well as the landed estates since he is well educated and bilingual. LTK likely to be close around kovan area since its near his former stronghold. Sylvia and Pritam to be allocated to the rest

We all know CST is a good person unlike LTK. People vote for the sake of voting for the opposition. When a person gets emotional, they can't think correctly. A very good example is the one on the 3 corner fight. Who the hell knows LLL from WP? She spoke about workfare bonus - meant only for people with an income - be given to stay-at-home parents. Is this good enough to gain more than 12,000+ votes. She was only there since Feb 2011.

You have to give credit to Sitoh YP for his perseverance. The voters there vote with their EYES OPEN & with their HEART. Sitoh YP is the one who can serve them due to CST's health and not because of his incapability.

What has or have WP done so far? PAP has done so much for Singapore since Independence - YES, everything in Singapore, which Singaporeans feel proud about. Yes, it's achieved by ALL Singaporeans, but who are the ones who lead and have the vision?

Out of nowhere, WP are seen as the good ones, PAP as the bad ones.

Singaporeans complained about "High Cost of Living" but they FAILED to ask themselves how many branded bags, laptops, smart phones, shirts they have compared to our neighboring countries. When comes NATAS fair, PC Show, IT Show - all Singaporeans must die-die must travel. Did they save for rainy days or just conveniently blame the government when things starts to fall.

Younger generation spending money on pubs, KTVs. Look at the restaurants, you basically got to queue to have a seat. High cost of living? Inflation?

COEs went up! Blame PAP? Who bid for the cars?

People who are really poor will definitely gets help. You want to listen to one-sided stories? Anyone die of hunger?

Housing Grant - Do our neighboring countries get housing grant from their government? Did Singaporeans make any money selling and renting out their HDB flats? Fresh grad from universities or poly and straight away want cars & housing affordable to them. Be realistic. Ask the older generations.

HDB Resale price went up, Singaporeans did not make any profit? Who bought your flats?

Why Singaporeans sell their HDB flats? Most of them want to upgrade to condos or landed? No Singaporean speculators? Mini-bonds, blame PAP? When they made money, where are they?

Lost their jobs - Did they take a look at themselves? Do you mean by voting WP, they can guarantee that your employer, supervisor won't sack you and ask you to leave if you cannot perform? Don't blame foreigners. When Singaporeans work in overseas, do you want to get the same treatment? Without the foreigners, can it move the economy?

Casino-IRs - So many people curse & criticize. Are you saying those who voted for the opposition did not enjoy themselves at MBS & RWS? Do they feel proud when they entertain their guests?

Do you think all FTs who have converted to Singaporeans vote for PAP? So, are they the opposition friends or PAP enemies? When asked why they took up citizenship and voted for the opposition since they have so much grievances? No one can give me a clear answer.

Why so many MNC / manufacturing companies stay in Singapore despite the high cost? Not the government's effort? How many mouths it feeds? You mean what we (Singaporeans and Foreigners) can do other countries cannot?

During SARS, economy crisis, did the gov help the SMEs? Ask around?

Singaporeans are lucky that SING Dollar is strong. What happens if the Sing Dollar is weak? Everything goes up! Blame PAP again?

REMEMBER that most of your loved ones, children, parents, relatives work for various sectors and departments of the government. When things fail or you are not satisfied with the service or security lapse, entirely the gov's fault?

CSM (WP) who was a Taiwanese. Why opposition supporters commented & criticized about KBW being a quitter and so on? CSM was missing from Singapore for 30 years, his wife, a Taiwanese, now a US citizen. When asked whether his son, a US citizen, will serve NS, CSM said he HOPED he would, but would let him decide when he turns 18. If CSM is a PAP candidate, all HELL breaks Loose.

Why the opposition voters have different treatment especially for the LEE family besides PAP? From time to time we hear nasty things being said about them. When the reports mentioned about GY's son having to undergo treatment in the US, all sorts of nasty comments came out.

The ruling party is not perfect and I'm sure they will work even harder. Voting for opposition just for them to make noise in the parliament will not solve anything but cause more disruptions. More unproductive time will be spent arguing and debating on non critical issues, and less time to address important issues.
