This is what struggling is like in 3rd world countries......

Show me a place is in Singapore where there is no running water, no sewage and no electricity.

Show me one sinkie that looks like a walking skeleton.

Please, you are talking to a person, that live through the time, when dead pigs, chickens & whatever float down the SINgapore river & right at the mouth of the river towards where Fullerton building is...& the smell. People's toilets are built over a pond with no toilet papers...people toilets whose doors in flats are made of aluminum & the toilet papers are strung on a wire, the toilet paper are collected from the wrappers for the fruits or your daily STRAITS TIMES etc..

I can take you, by the hand & walk with you to see places, where people live with little electricity, etc..uses common facilities like the CC for their toilets...etc. What I am saying is...you do not have to show me what poverty, hunger is like...I travel around the world....

I am not against people who had worked hard with the people who brought us to what we have today...but people, who has lost their plot & fail to see, hungry, helpless people, whose rice bowls are smashed...though they are RICH on paper..like one clown minister will tell, you...what they have on paper is imprssive..but what they do not have to eat, clothe & live that is another..

You do not need to see people who look like skeleton, walking in the streets, who does not have proper sanitation or housing...but people who are shuffling through the day...POOR inside, CRIPPLED inside. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cx0di2_rWUI

I lived through that time too. The house that I grew up in had no sewage system and no electricity. We had to pump up our kerosine lamps every evening in order to do our homework.

The PAP then came along and transformed my life. For that I will be forever grateful. The party has done wonderful things for me.

Since PM LHL took over, Singapore has been transformed further and is now the jewel of the Far East. Obesity is through the roof which proves that all is well. Perhaps the PAP is providing too much of a good life.

Obesity and a rasied BMI > 30 is not a good sign of total health. Yes, more fat and obese people with more food.
But Obesity will eventually lead to many other diseases....The Metabolic Syndrome is one of the consequences of an affluent and rich society....

What Is Metabolic Syndrome?

Metabolic (met-ah-BOL-ik) syndrome is the name for a group of risk factors that raises your risk for heart disease and other health problems, such as diabetes and stroke.

The term "metabolic" refers to the biochemical processes involved in the body's normal functioning. Risk factors are traits, conditions, or habits that increase your chance of developing a disease.

In this article, "heart disease" refers to coronary heart disease (CHD). CHD is a condition in which a waxy substance called plaque (plak) builds up inside the coronary (heart) arteries.

Plaque hardens and narrows the arteries, reducing blood flow to your heart muscle. This can lead to chest pain, a heart attack, heart damage, or even death.

Metabolic Risk Factors

The five conditions described below are metabolic risk factors. You can have any one of these risk factors by itself, but they tend to occur together. You must have at least three metabolic risk factors to be diagnosed with metabolic syndrome.
•A large waistline. This also is called abdominal obesity or "having an apple shape." Excess fat in the stomach area is a greater risk factor for heart disease than excess fat in other parts of the body, such as on the hips.
•A high triglyceride level (or you're on medicine to treat high triglycerides). Triglycerides are a type of fat found in the blood.
•A low HDL cholesterol level (or you're on medicine to treat low HDL cholesterol). HDL sometimes is called "good" cholesterol. This is because it helps remove cholesterol from your arteries. A low HDL cholesterol level raises your risk for heart disease.
•High blood pressure (or you're on medicine to treat high blood pressure). Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of your arteries as your heart pumps blood. If this pressure rises and stays high over time, it can damage your heart and lead to plaque buildup.
•High fasting blood sugar (or you're on medicine to treat high blood sugar). Mildly high blood sugar may be an early sign of diabetes.

Overview

Your risk for heart disease, diabetes, and stroke increases with the number of metabolic risk factors you have. In general, a person who has metabolic syndrome is twice as likely to develop heart disease and five times as likely to develop diabetes as someone who doesn't have metabolic syndrome.

Other risk factors, besides those described above, also increase your risk for heart disease. For example, a high LDL cholesterol level and smoking are major risk factors for heart disease, but they aren't part of metabolic syndrome.

Having even one risk factor raises your risk for heart disease. You should try to control every risk factor you can to reduce your risk.

The risk of having metabolic syndrome is closely linked to overweight and obesity and a lack of physical activity. Insulin resistance also may increase your risk for metabolic syndrome.

Insulin resistance is a condition in which the body can't use its insulin properly. Insulin is a hormone that helps move blood sugar into cells where it's used for energy. Insulin resistance can lead to high blood sugar levels, and it's closely linked to overweight and obesity.

Genetics (ethnicity and family history) and older age are other factors that may play a role in causing metabolic syndrome.

Outlook

Metabolic syndrome is becoming more common due to a rise in obesity rates among adults. In the future, metabolic syndrome may overtake smoking as the leading risk factor for heart disease.

It is possible to prevent or delay metabolic syndrome, mainly with lifestyle changes. A healthy lifestyle is a lifelong commitment. Successfully controlling metabolic syndrome requires long-term effort and teamwork with your health care providers.

good morning. its too early.

Lky's greatness contribution is in taking one (or three; or 42) for the team. he made the tough decisions and has led to "tough" outcomes. cause and effect.

you are quite right.
when faced with tough decisions and tough times, you have to do something there and then..

your decisions may or may not be 100% correct, but as a leader, you have to decide - and to decide fast without causing too much damage to your country.

singapore faced tough times! and i believe, honestly, mr lee made the tough decisions with great honesty, with great integrity and with great commitment and passion
for the well being of Singapore. and for this, i gave him much credit. if we were to have a weaker and indecisive leader, singapore might not have made it. his leadership was supreme and he was right in making those decisions. i respect the man and i still respect him today. his humility and compassion are well worthy of emulation. his political leadership is greatness...majulah singapura!!!

the good life comes with progress, obesity is a symptom of the failures of progress. it points to an inefficient system of food distribution.

Hahaha....... great man at fixing oppo. see signature.

if you were in mr lee's shoes, you would have done the same - maybe worse

in the political arena, you have to knock off your opponents ...otherwise, they will knock and kill you off

if you want to play the political game, be prepared to be knocked off

otherwise, sit by the side on the bench...and just clap your hands and shake your head...

cheers!!!

the thought process was correct but the outcome wrong. why?
a wrong thought process has led to the right outcome before. why?

because there is no right and wrong.
