More coming. The construction industry is one of the most corrupt in Singapore. Substandard and failed materials are used, workers are treated like slaves, the contractors and sub con can go party and HFJ so often and yet the construction costs are higher than almost all developed countries, including Australia, USA and Japan but the standards are below par of most developed countries. Leegime corruption is good only through the Leegime times. But the laws of the universe do not follow Leegime laws. Leegime can try whip the moon reflection in the water into submission.

MOM now in trouble. Worker already feedback to MOM and management for month still no salary payment.
When employer not follow rule MOM should act.
MOM should protect worker. If not then dont collect levy.

Construction site workers stop work over late payment of pay

Yishun site where foreign workers are believed to have stopped work for late pay.




SINGAPORE: Some workers at a construction site along Yishun Avenue 6 have stopped work because of late payment of salaries.

A Mr Tan, who said he is in charge of Sime Chong Construction, told reporters that four of his workers - all Chinese nationals - had stopped work since 26 November.

He said they are owed between S$1,000 and S$2,000 each for the past three months.

He confirmed the four had complained to the Manpower Ministry on 20 November, after which they had a three-way meeting on 26 November.

Mr Tan added that his car was stolen on Monday and the workers' salaries vouchers were lost. As such, he was unable to pay the workers.

He issued "I-O-Us" to them and said he will settle the payment in the next few days.

He told reporters he has about 80 workers - from India, Bangladesh and China - under him.

He said Sime Chong Construction was set up in October last year.

At 6.05pm, officers from the Manpower Ministry were seen entering the construction site office.

Officials from the Migrant Workers Centre were earlier denied entry, as were the media.

The site's gates were shut after groups of workers were seen leaving.

It is believed the site employs workers from several different companies.

Besides lodging complaints with MOM, the unpaid workers shouldn't have down tools and gone on strike. Instead they should approach their respective embassies for assistance. When their ambassadors take up the matter with MOM, it becomes an inter-governmental issue which NO government wants it to happen, especially with our LEEgime which cares a lot about saving face.

I hope whoever reads this post of mine will convey my message to those poor guys.

WHat needs to be done with all these foreign workers is to cut their rights and tell them before they arrive if they start riots etc, they will get deported straight away. these foreigners spend money to come here,,if they get deported, they can pay back their loan,,u think they would do it?

3rd world country people need to be treated as 3rd world country people,,give them abit of rights they will exploit it,,implementations of laws and rights to them will just lead to more abuse of the system....

Errant employers should be caned and jailed.
The MOM's attitude is deplorable and has to account for its poor response.
This govt knows how to let in foreign cheap labour and closes its eyes when they are exploited.

Very innovative excuses ! In China,to escape audit ,the chinese company would set fire on the office only and report that the financial records were burnt or the chinese company would report that the company driver went to pee in a public toilet and when he came out he found his vehicle disappeared including all the financial records inside the vehicle !

Overtime Tan CJ is one of those clowns who defended his high stipends with the sob story of how he worked late and has little time to see his children.

He is a clown because he is unaware that many lowly paid peasants are working overtime for peanuts to keep their jobs from cheap foreign labour.
