Mr Goh,

I respect you for your bold, frank and unconventional views in Sammyboy forum. You have entertained Singaporeans and I hope you will continue to do so. You have switched allegiance to seek a party that is visionary to contain your far-sighted political values.

Instead of looking for a party which suits your political ambitions, may I ask whether Mr Goh ever considered being a NMP?

NMPs have also brought up good points to debate in parliament. Walter Woon, in his capacity as NMP managed to push the enactment of the Parents Maintence Act; while Siew Kum Hong managed to bring more awareness of the existence of the LGBT community in Singapore.

I understand the various communities which represents the arts, businesses, social welfare and labour could nominate people for NMP to represent them. Mr Goh, you are a businessman who owns a computer shop I heard, why not you market yourself as a representative of SMEs so you could help raise the plight of SMEs in Singapore; instead of joining different political parties trying to find one which suits you.

On the assumption you are in Parliament as NMP, what are the topics you will bring up for the benefit of Singaporeans? Although NMP lacks some of the voting powers in Parliament, they are still able to bring up issues which are of concern to Singaporeans.

Prior to creating this discussion, I asked myself whether should I send you a private message to ask you these questions. I decided to ask this publicly because I believe you are a politician, who is definitely capable of giving good satisfactory answers to eligible voters.

Waterloong, you haven't been in this forum (old and new) very long. GMS has held stand against NCMP and NMP for more than ten years. Suggesting he takes up NCMP or NMP is like suggesting castration to him.

The NMP scheme by the PAP in principle is not to cater to opposition identities. Despite the presence of an opposition member in the selection committee, the rest have been told to look for the following
1. Industry and society voices on social issues.
2. Experts and Specialist on topical issues of that period.
3. People with no political ambition but able to contribute in Parliament
4. Captains of Industry and Society Figures who form the potential pool of PE candidates in order to engender some sense of politics so that they are keen to contest PE.

GMS does not qualify.

Thank you Ramseth. I did not know.

If the intent is to benefit Singaporeans by being a voice, I don't see the harm of being NMP. You have to be in parliament to be a voice, let Singapore hear you. The reason I ask Mr Goh because he is vocal. The same can be said for many other politicians who failed to get into Parliament despite several attempts. Shouldn't they put their principles aside for the benefit of Singaporeans?

Although the concept of getting appointed doesn't appeal, but isn't having a voice in Parliament attractive. Siew Kum Hong as an example, he has made waves and represented the GLBT community in Singapore. He is a voice.

Scroobal, From my shallow understanding, the NMP could be nominated if the nominee is a voice of a community or industry, hence earlier, I suggested Mr Goh should champion and market himself as a cause, such as SMEs, instead of being in limbo.

NMP scheme was implemented to facilitate the idea of a shadow cabinet to bring "external" voices into the parliament so that the absent of opposition politicians will not be sorely miss. Any opposition politician with some backbone, even if given a chance, will not accept NMP nomination.

Castration would not be a problem for him, but, does he have balls to castrate?

Some of the forummers have expressed my sentiments.

As a person who has fought to develop democracy in Singapore, the NMP system is unacceptable to me. It is a matter of principle and I do not join the very system which I am against. As for NCMP, I would only support this system if and only if the whole system changed to proportional representation.

Mr Goh,

Instead of looking for a party which suits your political ambitions, may I ask whether Mr Goh ever considered being a NMP?

Prior to the last election, in the CNA forum he was strongly against such role and will NOT ACCEPT NMP or NCMP if elected. He said this role has no voting power in parliament. He wanted such role to be scrapped. You are making a mockery of asking him to become NMP again?

Besides, SME voices are already deafening to the extend our NTUC Labour Union Chief Lim Swee Sya has to bend to suck their balls. Tony Tan has to do his round, behind closed door, begging them for votes not to mention they have several clans in Singapore and other unions. I doubt a single NMP will do the trick given SME has such a network here.

I already deny it many times and it is getting boring to me. Even when TNP reporter came asking, also deny it categorically. I am not such a coward like insects like you... well, or really no class, editing quotes and trying to put words into my mouth. That's really no class lah. Who will believe somebody like you?

Not very nice to call anyone an insect. Bluewave should show proof nonetheless.

If the system is proportional representation, NCMP should be a voting seat.

You expecting us to put something else in your mouth? Could choke you, bro. May need to swallow too. Putting words in your mouth is being very kind.
