LKYSPP gives air time for PAP nominated NMPs to sell book and make even more money.

Did you know that the 9 current NMPs will finish their 2.5 year term on 20 July 2023? Did you know submissions of names for NMPs closed on 19 April 2023, and the evaluation process for the next batch of 9 NMPs is currently underway?

Although more than 30 years have passed since the Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) scheme was introduced in 1990, it remains controversial and poorly understood today.

Have NMPs raised views that elected MPs - on both sides of the House - could or did not? Have they kept voters away from the Opposition, or been a bulwark of loving critics in the midst of a parliamentary supermajority?

Inspired by her parliamentary experience, former NMP Anthea Ong brings together 19 colleagues* past and present as the Editor of this first book dedicated to the NMP scheme. This is an NMP story told by this special group of Singaporeans to discuss their experiences in office, from the Population White Paper to the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act, and what being appointed has meant to them personally. In addition, the book also included fun facts about the scheme: who spoke up more - elected MPs or NMPs, which NMP has asked the most parliamentary questions, what is the representation profile of NMPs over the 3 decades etc.

Join Anthea Ong for a candid conversation with two of her fellow NMPs and book contributors, Chandra Mohan Nair and Dr Shahira Abdullah on the roles of NMPs in representing Singaporeans and what the Parliament means to Singaporeans in an evolving society - including what goes on behind the scenes in Parliament, in the tea room.

The book will be on sale at a special event rate, and Anthea, Chandra and Shahira will be happy to do the book signing for you.
