IGP: No reason to arrest Dr Mahathir, suggestion mischievous
KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar (pic) has rejected calls by certain quarters for former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to be arrested for his criticisms of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and the Government.
“There’s no cause to arrest Tun Mahathir. The suggestion is mischievous and I will not entertain such a request,” he told reporters after launching the Op Selamat 7/2015 campaign at KL Sentral, here, Wednesday.
On another development, Khalid said details of probes into the alleged embezzlement of 1MDB funds and the controversial purchase of Dudley International House in Melbourne, Australia by Mara Inc. Sdn Bhd, could not be revealed until their completion. He said revealing details could disturb investigations and also contravened the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act.
“Under this Act, legal action can be taken against anyone who exposes the on-going investigations by the special task force,” he said.
Khalid also advised the public to be careful and not get carried away in voicing their opinions and in spreading information they receive through social media on the two hotly discussed issues. – Bernama.
