Full metal jackets first part during the training stage on Paris island is a classic the 2nd part where they get deployed to Vietnam wasn't so good. The drill instructor played by lee emervy is still remembered to this day even though he was probably onscreen for half the movie.

Not Paris island, it Parris Island.
