Fined for hurting kiosk worker

A RELIEF cabby was fined $3,000 on Wednesday for slapping and kicking a petrol station service attendant who had turned down his request to clean his vehicle windscreen. Ng Yew Kiong, 46, admitted to causing hurt to Chinese national Su Ya Kun, 20, at Caltex petrol kiosk at Clementi Avenue 2 on Oct 9 last year.
The court heard that the victim was checking the petrol pumps at about 5.10am when Ng drove in to refuel his taxi. After refuelling the vehicle, Ng approached the victim and shouted: 'Chinaman, do you want to help me clean my window?'' The victim said he was checking the petrol pumps and could not do so.
After making payment, Ng walked up to the victim, who was then squatting to check the pumps, pulled him up and gave him a slap on the cheek. The victim ran into the Star Mart and called the police. Ng came in and kicked him on the stomach. Mr G Dinagaran said the victim's injuries were minor, and that his client had shown remorse by pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity. Ng could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000.
