New place of pilgrimage for FCB fans

The FC Bayern 'Erlebniswelt' in the Allianz Arena offers fans a unique insight into their rich history

Cologne - The word 'museum' hardly does it justice. Covering an area of over 3,000 square metres, FC Bayern Munich's brand new exhibition at the Allianz Arena would be better described as a 'World of Experience'.

"It's absolutely sensational, a landmark and a real treasure for FC Bayern," said club president Uli Hoeneß, who openly admitted that he had "never been a big fan of museums".

"Living representation of FC Bayern's history"

Taking a tour through the exhibition, it is not just hardcore Bayern Munich fans who will realise they are seeing a "living representation of the history of FC Bayern", as it was so aptly described by chairman of the board Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Since the club s founding 112 years ago, FC Bayern have enjoyed success like no other team in Germany and have stockpiled a unique collection of trophies and documents. The replicas of their 21 German titles, 15 DFB Pokal and 4 European Cup trophies as well as the Club World Cup, the European Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Cup underline the sporting credentials of this European heavyweight.

Wealth of splendours

A total of 2,606 exhibits have been gathered. Former officials, players, club members and fans are all among the 251 different donors who helped piece together the exhibition. Several of the displays showcase extremely rare or unique documents, including an original ticket from the final of the 1932 German championship - Bayern's first ever title win - and the receipt for the 4,400 DM paid to sign all-time top goalscorer Gerd Müller.

Other highlights range from the advertising hoardings that Jürgen Klinsmann stamped a hole in back in 1997, the kit worn by Franz Beckenbauer during the 1974 European Cup final against Atletico Madrid and the piece of paper that head coach Ottmar Hitzfeld wrote his tactics down on during Bayern's Champions League win against Valencia in 2001.
