Making my friends and family happy, makes me happy

there is some truth in this indeed. let me share this short video with all thread readers here. This is produced in part by famed Yasmin Ahmad who's sadly passed on. Her films causes one to reflect on one's values and question the current paradigms. This one made me think about what is happiness and success a few years ago as I lost myself in my career just like in the video. I holed myself up at work in SG hardly in contact with my mum and always fleeting when i do, coming into JB and living here, my mum was a big part in the equation. I hope i could make up for lost time whilst i can. Career can be worked around another day and it shouldn't define me nor the life I am to live.

Hi Wuqi,

All of your guys including Euphony and you are so helpful. I am so glad to have joined this forum and read the posts in this thread.

Thank you very much.

Hi Mathstub, i am glad at least bros here like Euphony has answered most of your queries. LF is not really for me as its still underdeveloped outside. Places like Nusa Duta, HH, Nusa Idaman and Nusa Sentral are still good though prices have started to creep up. If you ask me, at present prices, Nusa Duta still presents the best value and they are still inexpensive as compared to some of the rest. Already just settled one, I may go in for one more.

I don't really go for Setia houses in Bukit Indah/Eco Setia but they did do a good job at Setia Tropika in Kempas area.

Hi Wuqi,

I have seen some houses on sale with 4 as part of the house number (at least in the master plan shown on the developer's map).

Do you think a lot of buyers are reluctant to buy houses with number including 4 even though I can see some people may have no problem with this?

Seriously considering, they offer really good value and higher upside. People tend to forget about the upside when considering to buy property. They just think a place is too expensive or too low appreciation currently to make money.

Thank you very much for sharing the video.

Looking for a life in which one can find true happinesss is not something hard to achieve and can be quite simple as soon as one is willing to make choices with which he or she feels comfortable even though sometimes they may look awkward to many others.

Hope everyone here has a happy and wonderful life!

No offence meant to anyone in Setia @ Bukit Indah. There are pros and cons to every place.
Just that personally i don't really like their houses but thats just me. For the amount of money
one has to spend, i would pick something else. That said though, if i had to choose amongst
the Setia developments, a close 2nd after Tropika would be Bukit Indah, its the Eco one i really
find abit unappealing. Just my personal thoughts.

PASIR GUDANG -*A multi-million-ringgit plan by Tenaga Nasional Bhd to upgrade its infrastructure in south Johor will reduce the duration of power interruptions in Iskandar Malaysia.

The plan, known as Iskandar Malaysia 10 or IM10, will aim to reduce the System Average Interruption Duration Index (Saidi) in south Johor to less than 10 minutes by 2015.

Saidi is the internationally recognised system to measure how many minutes a utility customer experiences power interruptions in a year.

The Saidi for south Johor last year was 111 minutes.

Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said ongoing works in the first phase of IM10 will cost RM300 million (S$121 million) until its completion in the end of next year.

The first of four phases covers eight "supercritical" locations where disruptions occur the most -- Johor Baru City Centre, Pasir Gudang, Tampoi/Larkin, Tebrau, Gelang Patah/Bukit Indah, Taman Ungku Tun Aminah/Mutiara Rini, Seri Alam and Johor Jaya/Desa Cemerlang.

Ghani said the more efficient electricity supply will benefit the 550,000 consumers in Iskandar Malaysia who use up to 1,400 megawatts of power.

"These consumers represent 60 per cent of the overall electricity consumption in Johor.

"The project is expected to spur economic and business growth in Iskandar Malaysia as a major economic corridor in Johor.

"It is also part of the Economic Transformation Programme," he said at the launch of IM10 at the Pasir Gudang town centre main intake substation here yesterday.

Also present were TNB chief executive officer Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, state TNB general manager Datuk Mohd Aminuddin Mohd Amin, state speaker Datuk Mohd Ali Hassan and state International Trade and Industry, Energy, Water, Communication and Environment Committee chairman Tan Kok Hong.

The IM10 is part of the Electricty Blueprint of Iskandar Malaysia, and follows a call by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in March last year for TNB to improve its supply reliability in the southern growth corridor.

Among the steps taken in IM10 is a 10-year plan to standardise the voltages of 945 substations from 6.6kV to 11kV, 2,441 substations from 22kV to 11kV and replacing another 5,160km of problematic cables.

Another RM323 million will be spent in the next two years to build five main intake substations and 20 main distribution substations.

A 40-member team comprising engineers and others have been spearheading the work in IM10.

Just renew it a week or two before it expires.

Same process, photo, fill up form etc....

Just make sure ur pp has a validity more than two years.

Else get a new pp first n then go for MACS

Hi Bro Wuqi/AP/other forumers, I would like to know when the MACS sticker needs to be renewed, will the custom officers ask questions? Now that we have to scan the passport, they will know that we are staying in JB right? Last time the officer would just see the sticker and then let people go...

Will there be any problems renewing the sticker? If asked about staying here, what should be the right response? Please kindly advice.. When I first got the sticker, nothing was asked...

Went to Carrefour Sutera mall and saw quite a good selection of water filter, more selection than Jusco. Saw a Philips faucet filter at RM99, replacement filter at RM40 for 2500 litres. Made in Japan. Sounds cheap and good. Anyone use before?!

http://www.purewater.philips.com/global/purifiers/purifiers_product_wp3861.aspx

Good find.

Video clip.
Please do look up other great Petronas holiday greeting clips on youtube. Universal application. Regardless Malay, Chinese, Sporeans or Malaysians, all will be touched. Little lost in subtitle translation.

MACS renewal
Note, unlike passport. 1 year starts from date of renewal not date of expiry. So renew as close to expiry as you can. Should be no prob if you cross daily at KSAB (2nd link). Just be ready with exact RM30.

Good suggestion.

But now tht we are here doubt anyone would wanna cut paste/ repost the whole thing.

This is a one all thread that contains everything.

Ur idea is great nevertheless.

One suggestion, from the number of views and popularity of this thread, maybe it's feasible o start a whole new forum for foreigners living in JB. Either a new domain (www.livinginjb.com) or a sub section in sammyboy forum.
So we can have forum for jb property investment, renovations, security, f&b, Internet and tv, education, fishing, transport, etc. Then information would be easier to be found.
Imagine in future a few thousand page threads! How to read them all?;-)

Hi

Entered JB via causeway at 8am and took the almost complete route to BI for bfast at McD today before checkg up on progress at NI. Air was so refreshing. It could just be psychological but heck it makes me smile and cant wait for completion .

Btw on the way at d new hiway the residents grievances still there. If u got to the overhead bridge sprayed in red on a white banner in malay some words aimed at the road developer. It seems they were promised a tunnel instead of surface road..happy for us who can use this faster route but empathize with the plight of the pple there. Hope they can work out some compensation.

Went to JB yesterday (Friday), around 11 in the morning. Causeway was smooth at both sides.
My destination was to Bukit Indah, using new coastal highway (from Tune hotel, turning to left) I branched out to have lunch at Orang Asli Seafood. It was not full house but I saw more than 10 tables were occupied.

After lunch, proceed to Bukit Indah. Visit Bestari Height. When I reached there, I saw about 6 Singapore registered cars parking in front of the show unit. Hmmmm,, property tour ?.

The construction work at this site is progressing very well. I would say at least 50% completed. Was told by one of the guy (who also visited the place) that 95% units are sold. Is that rite ?. I believe this place will be the next talk of the town. price is good, quality is good, security is good, location is good !!

btw, anyone notice that businesses at Giant (Nusa Bestari) is not doing well. I saw many shops closing down. Just hope this Giant will face the same fate as the one at Today's mall.

bro arsenal big praise tqtq sure one day when we all meet I'm sure it'll be an exciting time

mathstub: i think some Chinese in general are very particular some condos even avoid placing 4 on their plans preferring to call it 3A, 13A etc. could have implications come resale time but if its your own and it'll be so for a long time and you don't care about these then dun think bout it.

AP: agree on digi I use it too. digi to digi calls is great value. though its irritating to have the line expire even with credit inside. humpf.

Abugumgum: cheers that's the one. how's settling in been so far? FR? =)

As for the furniture shopping, after looking high and low I have finally decided on very solid minimalist wooden bedframes in an unexpected shop whose stuff I don't really like. I guess some treasures just need to be dug out and they can be had from the unlikeliest places. So a queen's bedframe, 2 super singles and 2 super single mattresses (4****) with delivery and 2 free pillows works out to be RM$3800. The most important lesson from this purchase? I brought my mum. She was the unrelenting bargainer. Asking for further discounts asking for freebies, on my own I wouldn't dare ask for anything. Those buying furnitures, do note than discounts is 'compulsory' for the items you purchase. Is the discount after the discount that is the hard one to ask for :p

What's halal dimsum? What's dimsum without pork?

Halal meant that it is prepared according to Islamic prescriptions thus fit for Muslim consumption. Well dimsum wiout pork is wat it literally means no pork but may not necessarily prepared according to Islam prescriptions hence not fit for Muslim consumption.

Hi Yonglip,

The monthly maintenance rate 0.2 cents/month is for one of the precincts in Leisure Farm, not Horizon Hills.
I am so sorry if this was not clear in my original post.

Thanks for clearing the air bro. Yes. most landed averaged RM100 per month in maintenance. Its the condo thats going for around RM200 to RM400 per month for obvious reasons. My friend's condo at straits view (permas jaya) pays more than RM500 per month in maintenance!....ouch!
