This shifting of goalposts will only solve the problem temporary. It will not take long to accumulate another 200 points for those who already surpassed the magical 500. My best friend accumulated 36 points in just one morning. He was on 530 last night and now he is on 566. I think by Sat afternoon, I can prepare to go for 24 hours holiday

Rude to me is OK if they don't like what I post. Because this is freedom speech. But not to my family/friend because they not related and they not posting anything. That way I always tell others if they don't like each others no need to attack the family/friends.

I don't want the infraction system being used as a weapon of war. It's supposed to be there so that responsible members of the community can issue warnings and ban rouge members in my absence so that some deranged poster can be stopped from messing up the whole forum.
The problem is how to define "responsible members of the community". I started off by setting the bar at 400 rep points. I then had to increase it to 500. However, that didn't stop tonychat, sifu, cooleo etc from arbitrarily banning members whenever they felt like it. As a result, I often had to go into the admin panel and release members who had ended up banned as a result of a running battle. Some days it resembled a war zone similar to what we've been seeing in the UK recently
I have now set the bar to 700 and I'm going to keep an eye on who adds and subtracts rep points so I can detect any manipulation of the system and spot the clones in the process.
I've said this over and over again.. no system is foolproof. However, it's better than nothing.
A penalty of 2 points for being rude is an acceptable way of showing ones displeasure. It's an encouragement to be less rude. It doesn't result in a ban. You need to accumulate 10 rep points before you end up being banned for 24 hours.
I have a better idea. Scrap reputation points. Create 5 to 10 infraction entitlements (COI) and let the forumers bid for it with real money payable via Paypal. Like COE, they are valid for a period of time, say 1 month after which the COI (Certificate of Infraction) is up for bidding again.
Whether it is pay as you bid or all pay lowest bid is up to you.
That way, only people who have any substance will hold the COI. Those who can't afford it have no reason to infract others anyway.

I don't want to collect money from anyone. It would be impossible to run the forum objectively and as fairly as possible. It will end up with a situation similar to what developed in Delphi were Delphi PLUS [paying] members had more influence over Walt Howe (delphi boss) than those with free memberships.
But beauty of my proposal is that this is all "reset" at the beginning of each month. And you don't even have to get involved, the infraction system will sort things out. Just set the rules and sit back and watch the fun.
You can even donate the money to your favourite charity.
