Whilst Singapore's liberal immigration policy has made it a haven for citizens from our poorer neighbours to improve their lives, some have taken things for granted and overstepped boundaries.

Homosexual Malaysian-born accounts assistant David Tan who studied Accountancy and Finance at SIM-UOL is one of such people. After returning to his homeland in JB for Chinese New Year, he started to express his anger towards Singaporeans after finding that there were plenty of Singaporeans who have gone over for the festive season on a Facebook post.

The number of 'likes' and comments from his Malaysian friends seem to agree with him that Singaporeans are not welcome in JB. This is highly ironic given that as many 500,000 Malaysian workers are based in Singapore and have benefited from the strengthening of the Singapore dollar.

With the population white paper just passed by parliament, it would seem that there would be many more Malaysian Chinese coming over to settle down in Singapore after opposing their country's Bumiputera policy for a long time to no available recourse.

I watched a TV program about JB yesterday.
They interviewed a guy from JB and he repeated what a taxi driver told me many years ago.

No la i said that statement without any boastfulness or haolian. I have lived in malaysia including JB for a good many years......mutual benefit not one side more 'superior' or what.
I see citizens from many countries sharing borders having much better relationships.....only uniquely singapore here both sides are portrayed as each others' bogeyman.....why cannot have win win situation?

Yes. I watched the show too at ch8. Some of the Johoreans declared themselves as "half" singaporeans cos the moment they reached home, they would turn on TV channel 8 and 5. Speak Mandarin at home. Comparing their garment and MIW. Praised the latter sky high. Now tat our garment target 6.9million. Tell them to be SC lah. See wat excuses they would give.
