After falling into a coma over a year ago, a man at a hospital in Shenzhen woke up at the sight of a 100-yuan banknote. Xiao Li, from Pingu, Zhejiang province, suddenly fainted as he was playing online games at an internet cafe in August 2013. He was sent to a hospital in Shenzhen, where he remained in a vegetative state due to serious cerebral hemorrhaging, according to iFeng News. Xiao Li's brain surgeon, Doctor Liu, told a Southern Urban Daily journalist that the patient's spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage was caused by his continuous online game playing combined with a dangerous lack of sleep.

In March 2014, after being comatose for 200 days, nurses noticed that Xiao Li was showing slight activity. He could just barely move his fingers to grab things near his hand.

Early last year, after noticing some movement from Xiao Li, a nurse took 100-yuan note out of her pocket in an attempt to attract his attention. A person standing nearby told Xiao Li that if he could use his hand to take the money, it would be his. Remarkably, the patient raised his shaking hands, showing for the first time that he was really awake. Although it took him nearly five minutes to actually get to the cash, it was considered a huge milestone in his journey to recovery.
