what cao pi did was to hit the final nail into cao cao bad reputation. pls ignore the novel storyline, the real history cao cao died as a court official of the han dynasty. As for the real reason why cao cao didnt force han xiandi to abidicate will never know as only cao cao himself knew.

as for guan yunchang, his reputation was over hype. the battles he won by himself can be count with one hand. let see, the two battles he fought for cao cao against yan liang and wen chou and also capture of changsha with 300men, that it no more i can remember. even zhang fei won more battles alone than guan yu.

he also a petty man, he very unhappy when he receive edict from liu bei that he was confer as one of the "five tiger generals" together with zhang fei, zhao yun, ma chao and huang zhong. He can accept being same level as zhang fei and zhao yun because they together for many years and ma chao are of noble birth but he tulan huang zhong being a captured enemy being same rank as him. it only a humbe letter from zhuge that evalvated guan to head of five tiger generals that he willing to accept the conferment.

from Liu Bei's POV, he damm koh-lian...got no talents to use...although amongst the 3 leaders,he is supposedly the most popular (post history) but in order to retain loyalty he has no choice but to elevate all 5 of them to "generals" . Cao Cao has the most talents. Liu Bei worst.

Guan Yu was revered more of his loyalty - which was underlined during time when he surrendered to Cao Cao under conditions.

Sure can.

In fact, by posthumous conferment, Cao Cao was technically an emperor, i.e. Wei Wudi.

All the same towards the end of his life Cao Cao had the privilege of using the trappings of an Emperor from Carriage to dressing. All that was missing was the official title.

Interestingly enough Cao Cao's reputation only took a turn for the worst during the Song dynasty especially so after Southern Song.

His headache had anything to do with it? He was battling it for sometime. Was he also superstitious?

Who is your favourite Chinese Emperor?

For me, I voted Emperor Taizong of Tang dynasty..

EmperorTaizong.jpg

Emperor Taizong was one who listened to the advice of his councellors and ministers. No other emperor can match him in this respect. Because he was able to listen to the advice of his loyal officials, his empire grew strong in a midst of time.

Emperor Taizong was also a man of great strategy and tactics, especially during his campaign war against the Tujue (Turks), which allowed him to conquer Mongolia and Central Asia.

Epic failure. He should have burned them all and check with the Roman Empire how to write in ABC alphabet.

Was 汉武帝 Han Wu Di a suspicious and a control freak ? He was lauded for these campaigns against the northern barbarians called 匈奴 Xiong Nu by getting the much needed 'branded' Arabian horses from the present day's Afghanistan. The yesteryear's Xiong Nu is actually the present day's 匈牙利 Hungarian ?

Today, the common saying like 马到功成 is also a sign of victory.

Re: Blood Sweating Horses

洪武帝! For the simple fact that he progressed from a peasant to the most powerful man in the middle kingdom. That's the equivalent of Goh Meng Seng becoming the Prime Minister of Singapore. Inconceivable!

Yeah. Han Wudi's life smeared by many of his quirks. he became so crazy that his son turn crazy also. but crazy times need crazy king to lead ma. If he is not crazy, he won't be the first emperor to try and attack the xiongnu instead of guarding against them or appeasing them. He is supposed to like horse very much and the legend Red blood horse was breed by him. He killed his concubine before dying so that that won't be a Luzhi or Woman to interfer his young son's reign.
The history of his reing is actually the most accurate because the famous historian was sanouk by him.

So, was it 汗马功劳 sweating horse merit or 汉马功劳 Han horse merit ? Actually, these horses didn't sweat at all. It was blood.
