Who is your favourite Chinese Emperor?

For me, I voted Emperor Taizong of Tang dynasty..

Emperor Taizong was one who listened to the advice of his councellors and ministers. No other emperor can match him in this respect. Because he was able to listen to the advice of his loyal officials, his empire grew strong in a midst of time.

Emperor Taizong was also a man of great strategy and tactics, especially during his campaign war against the Tujue (Turks), which allowed him to conquer Mongolia and Central Asia.

Without a doubt, Li Shimin is the greatest emperor in China's history. Here's an excerpt from the official historical records:

The price of grains was cheap. Cows and horses grazed freely in the field, people did not lock their doors and there were few people in jail. Merchants were no longer bothered by bandits, the powerful families no longer threatened the small people and in some regions, people need not bring provisions when travelling because they received the hospitality of the people on the road.

What you quoted sounds very much like what I read from our Straits Times leh!

Deng Xiao Ping

He dares to challenge the flaw ideas of despot Mao. He didnt take revenge on those that cripple his son during the Cultural Revolution Hundred Flowers Campaign.

He abdicate his Emperor Throne. He make lives better for the billion, he govern a free people with land of their own. He initiates free market mechanisms to allow the sleeping Dragon to awake. He makes every cat useful.

As compared to the feudal rule under the previous dyansties where slaves and peasants continued to slog for thousands of years without land ownership, the modern Emperor has made peasants seen riches that was never possible in the past.

Sure he and Li Peng gave the order to quell the Tiananmen Incident, by letting the students ran riot, isnt this playing into the external forces hands? If that had developed into a split for China, you think will China progress till today, who knows?

Li Shiming and Liu Che got muddled headed when they got old.

I think that by the title Emperor, it means between Qin Shihuang Yingzheng and Qing Xuantong Puyi. Kings before and presidents or premiers after don't count.

In ancient Chinese feudal hierarchy, Harry would be at most a duke.

Kuan Yew probably learnt a lesson or two about the effectiveness of betraying one's friends and comrades from Wu Sangui.

Wu Sangui was smart to defect to the Qing. Li Zicheng really cannot make it. not everybody want to be or think like Wen Tianxiang or Shi Kefa.

Wu Sangui was guilty as charged but Li Zicheng was really a CMI indian chief. Threaten the general who could repel the Manchus at the wrong time.
