Younger Singaporeans' desire for multi-party politics will doom Singapore

I second you ! It time for a overhaul of engine. It aint broken , but the parts are tearing and rusting away !

It's arrogance for KY to assume that outside of his PAP there are no capable people in S'pore. His oppression of the opposition has resulted in many bright people not willing to come out of the woodworks to serve the nation. These people have placed security first to their families, and know they can't survive the onslaught of political persecution, knowing they're in a system where they can't win. You can't blame them for being silent for the moment; they're bright, not suicidal.

Again, I say, there is not a very credible opposition we have today, but dismantle the oppressive regime, you can be sure the good men and women of S'pore will come out in numbers.

Our government leaders are akin to Premiereship players while the Opposition candidates are only fit to play for the Division 4 clubs. If as a result of a freak election and the Opposition comes to power, Singapore will be destroyed within 3 years.

MM Lee questions younger Singaporeans' desire for multi-party politicsBy Neo Chai Chin, TODAY | Posted: 14 August 2008 1035 hrs

“Over the years, with each election, we see the quality of the MPs, their education levels, their competence, their abilities, their energy.

“Their youthfulness is renewed and we have a leadership that’s able to meet the rising standards of the population,” said Mr Lee.

But today’s younger generation does not understand all this, the Minister Mentor said.

MPs are not involved in the formulation of policies. All these are done by the civil service. The decision-making body is the cabinet and MPs collect views from their constituencies to reflect the concerns of the people in parliament.

It is the ministers and civil servants that are running the country, not MPs. MPs can raise bills and vote on them, have a say on govt policies but no decisive influence.

A good MP will be one who speak without fear and favour on behalf of the people and runs the town council well. Many in the current opposition camp are more than qualified to play this role well.

The desire to for check and balance and alternative, not multi-party politics.

Politics as in any country evolves to suit the times..... and to say one does not believe in it is like saying one does not believe in growing old.....

When the electorate is more affluent.... their aspirations for more say in their lives grows... unless they are like the special breed call singaporeans.... no aspirations....
