<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->A new networking group targeting professionals in the business and corporate sectors has been launched by the youth wing of the People's Action Party (PAP).
Young PAP (YP) chairman Teo Ser Luck, speaking at the launch yesterday, said one challenge for the youth wing is to retain the interest of its members, many of whom have established themselves in their jobs and careers.
'The YP draws in members who are 40 and below, many of whom are corporate executives,' he noted. 'We felt that having this group will enable them to network and also bring forth more members to join (the party).'
The YP Professional Network will be an addition to an existing list of interest groups that cater to members' interests in issues and areas such as the community, women, international relations, media and public policy.
While the network is for YP members, its activities - which include courses, dialogues with ministers and visits to places of interest like the upcoming integrated resorts and oil terminals to observe their operations - will be open to non-members.
The network, whose six-member committee is headed by Mr Francis Phun, 47, director of hospitality company Republic International, aims to recruit 200 members by the end of this year.
Mr Phun said that while the YP has been known for its activities in the political and community arenas, the new network will provide a platform for members to come together and share their business and professional experiences with one another.
Mr Teo disclosed that other than reaching out to professionals, the YP aims to attract rank-and-file workers.
'They have a different set of interests, to do with finances and economic survival. I hope we can attract and engage them effectively,' he said.
'They have a perspective that could be different from the professionals, and it is important to have a network for them as well.'
The YP intends to launch this effort soon, he said. 'I want YP to be a party of the masses, catering to all segments of the population.'
Mr Teo, who is Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Community Development, Youth and Sports), also said that over the past year, the YP has seen an increase in membership. Some 700 joined it last year but it has already matched that number in the first eight months of this year.
He attributed the increased membership to more active engagement efforts online and said that the YP is on track to recruit a total of 1,000 members by the end of this year.
He did not, however, disclose the current membership numbers of the youth wing.

So they mean market price don't fluctuate? In fact market price fluctuate more than material cost as there will always be a time lag for prices of material to catch up with the trend.
