Next, MINDEF will buy the rest of the 100K tickets and force those army boys to attend.:biggrin::biggrin:

“IF YOU want tickets to catch the Youth Olympic Games, you will have to act fast,” the Straits Times urged on 7 July. “Ticket sales to the first Youth Olympic Games have been brisk, with more than 100,000, or close to 50 per cent of tickets, having sold out,” it reported.
“”More than 100,000 of the 245,000 have been snapped up… These include the 80,000 tickets that were purchased by the Ministry of Education in May,” it said.
Ok. Wait. Hold on.
Is it true that ticket sales have been “brisk”?
Two months earlier, on 26 May, the same Straits Times reported that sales of the 320,000 YOG tickets “have been sluggish”. (Straits Times)
It also reported that since March 31 (when the tickets were first put up for sale), only 20,000 tickets had been sold in April and May.
Apparently, to overcome the slow sales, the Ministry of Education stepped in and cleaned up 80,000 tickets in May. The ministry said “all schools will be allotted tickets.” (Straits Times)
That brings the total number of tickets sold to 100,000, out of the 320,000 tickets available for the games – 20,000 bought by the public and 80,000 bought by MOE.
But hold on.
The Straits Times in May said there were 320,000 tickets put up for sale.
However, in July, the same Straits Times reported the number of tickets to be 245,000 instead.
What happened to 75,000 of the 320,000 tickets?
At the moment, no one seems to know.
It is indeed telling that almost half of the tickets sold so far have to be bought by the MOE.
Will students be made to pay for the tickets?
The answer seems to be yes – according to the Straits Times.
‘Sixty per cent of ticket costs will be borne by MOE while the remainder will be paid by the schools. It is, however, up to the schools to decide the ultimate cost borne by students,” the Straits Times report says.
And the MOE is not telling how much it paid for the 80,000 tickets.
So, in brief:
The 320,000 YOG tickets mysteriously became 245,000 tickets – leaving 75,000 tickets “missing”.
20,000 tickets were sold in two months.
MOE stepped in and bought 80,000 tickets in May but refuses to disclose how much it paid for them.
Students may have to pay for these tickets. It is up to the school to decide how much students pay for them.
The budget for the YOG has more than tripled from $104 million to $387 million.
And oh, dear Straits Times, the MOE buying up 80,000 of the tickets does not mean sales “have been brisk”. 20,000 tickets – or 6 per cent – bought by the public out of 320,000 (or even 245,000) is very sluggish sale indeed.
One wonders if this whole thing is not becoming another farce.
Whatever it is, it should be of great concern to the organizers (and the Ministry of Community, Youth and Sports) that one month before the games are to begin, tickets sales have been so bad – and that the budget for the games has jumped more than threefold, from $104 million to $387 million!
Methinks Vivian Balakrishnan and Teo Ser Luck have a lot to account for.

Every cake is baked and come out of the oven HOT

By saying "YOG tickets selling like hot cakes!!!", it means that the tickets are "fresh out of the oven" and not sold yet!!

I think that many in some ways obliged to buy the tickets won't waste their time turning up anyway. Wasting money is bad enough. Those that somehow must show up probably don't need tickets and would leave as soon as diplomatically possible.

From 320k seat reduce to 245k seat to cover face is too many ticket unsold.
80k ticket pruchase by the goverment.
Another 20k by public..
Out of 20k - 19k brought by company/those working with YOG have to show support/contractor for YOG.
Only less 1k ticket brought by actuall supporter eg. family/relative.
Before the game start so many failure and shame.
1. Stadium not even complete/start build - Kallang Stadium as promise(even Veitnam stadium better than Singapore)
2. No YOG village just like- other country will build new flat for YOG use and sell it to comsumer after the game- Singapore strategy stay in hostel.
3. So many ticket unsold, if no Gov/company/contractor support - less than 10% ticket will be sold.
4. Budget exceeded 3 time the original plan. Will be more after the game end all cost added.

Gov should have not bid the YOG. Waste so much money and inconvenient to all public.
More shame or bad news will be up soon. Jalan Besar will be congested and many will be complaining no parking space. Making matter worst all the driver will drive around the area to find parking until pack like sardine cannot even move/drive.
The ministers really use back side to plan. They never think how to solve all the problem before bid for the game. WHen the problem happen. Maybe they will said CAUGHT OFF GUARD.
This phrase cannot be use. How can caught off guard when knowing when the even take place.
Hope that if any thing happen the minister in charge will be chop. At least peasant will be happy.

No need so difficult and spent more $ now that budget already over-shot by more than 3 times.

Just photoshop a photo that has many many spectators going wild will do. Since only the highly credible States Times will publish the photo and claimed humongous success of all the events held. No one will know or rat on the situation la since all of them inside the venue are organisers so canot loose face mah.

The World Cup just passed will provide many such photos to do their photoshop. Betterer still is all the angmo, spanish, dutch faces will show that YOG was supported by the world over. For local photos (cannot always use foreigners la, to obvious liow), just use those from NDP the previous week from YOG will do.

Timing is just perfect ! YOG will be a roaring success.

No need dummy/photoshop. Ask the camera crew don't point the camera at spectator/seat. So no one will know.

Cannot like this la. If only show photos of the game but not the crowd, some smart (or bright)-alex in Sam's Alfresco forum will query and conspire that there are no spectator at all.

Better to pre-empt than to do damage control right, knowing it is a sure-happen one ?
