A: Yes, but so far, it appears that the potential benefits are qualitative, whereas the costs are certainly quantitative, 9 figure some more.
Q: What was the motivation in hosting the games?
A: Official answer would be more tourism, more investments, bring sporting youths toegther, market SG to the world, make a global impact, blah blah blah.
Perhaps Maslow's theory would be useful to examine the motivation. For some, it could be achieving "self actualisation", for others, a case of boosting "self esteem".
