The PAP govt has spend $387,000,000 to host an event for about 5000 odd athletes and officials for two weeks... that would be an average spending of $77400 per person! Well, MCYS is only willing to give $360 per month to our poor less privileged citizens. $77400 could just last them more than 17years each...

The $387,000,000 price tag smells a fish. How is the money spend? It really makes me wonder when you look at the food they give to the YOG volunteers.

As a politician, please hold the PAP government accountable for what they spend - money from the tax payers. Let's hope no one pocketed any of the money from the $387 million.

They should include "volunteres's" salary too. Many civil servants have been "persuated" to "volunteree"

It is really hard to imagine where the money went to? There were no new facilities built. Don't expect the PAPies to account for themselves. we have to do it ourself. That's why we have to vote the APs into power.

No one 'pocketed' the $387 Million means no one was paid, and everyone is doing it for free?:D

What you meant is, every cent of the $387 million should be accounted for, of course, no one cheate...but 'members' get to eat a slice of the pie.;)

Like that you complain?

Lost $50 billions or more just like that in 2009 and how many zeros are there in 50 BILLIONS?

Sometimes the saying goes when some ppl are blinded daily by the many zeros, which they see going back and forth, $387 m is just like pocket change!:D

Whoa when I saw the headline I thot YOG was giving me $$$$..... I know not so easy lah.....

Without any real 'check-and-balance' by an opposition (I don't think there is any 'independent' auditors as long as the highest body in the team is included in the auditing), we can wait for the sun to rise from the west then we may get to see the audited spending of YOG.

And, while we are at it, why not also audiit the spending of TH and the country's reserve ? A journey of million years (let alone only 50+ years) starts with the first step right ?

From recent experience of Thailand, Taiwan......etc., only when a new government is in power that the state of the country will be audited, and any skeletons, if any, will be exposed.

Hi Mr GMS,

THE govt had factored in the return on capital.

The tangible returns like more economic activity and for those lucky ones who'd bagged the YOG contracts aside, there are also the intangibles like international goodwill, the brand building of Singapore and the sense of "national pride" generated.

If these returns on capital exceeded the costs (loss of electoral votes eg) of not spending on the needy, who are we to say it's not a good deal.

Maximilain Chua Heng, how many times had I told you to get your brain cleaned?

What type of fucking returns are you talking about?

Ppl here are asking why indeed spend $387 million for such fuck event and you go babbling about returns, tangible and intangible.

The reason behind this spending is nothing but for selfish gains.

You only need one truth as to why someone would do such a thing.

You don't need to go on and tell ppl what type of nonsense you think you have learnt thru out your life till now.

Cos you ain't leant shit if you don't want to tell the truth.
:D

I am calculating the payoffs (gains/losses) from the govt's perspective what.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Just a rough estimate. Let's say 25,000 at three meal packs per day for two weeks. That's 70,000 at S$5.5m tender awarded. That's more than S$5 per meal pack.

Cannot apply average across all the meals similar to those for volunteers.

Those buffert meals for officials, athletes and organisers are not cheap, given such a wide varieties. I would reckon these meals cost at least $30 each on average, with dinners costing a lot more.

Those for volunteers probably less than $2 (which I already is over-charged) each with those craps and in bulk purchase.

Yes, looks like a case of volunteers fed with junk to cross-subsidise officials to be fed with gourmet.

PAP government is spending $387,000,000 for YOG which Singaporeans have shown very little interest. They even need to FORCED students to volunteer in the event while giving them TERRIBLE FOOD!

On the other hands, there are many problems which the PAP is very reluctant to spend money to solve. The recent flooding needs to be solved but at an UNKNOWN cost which the PM said would be TOO HIGH.

ON top of that, PAP government has refused to provide to many less privileged Singaporeans. They have refused 50% of applicants for public assistance.

This $387million was spent to host 5000 athletes and officials for YOG. This means on average, S$77400 was spent for each of the 5000 guests. This could have lasted 5000 citizens who are on public assistance of $360 for almost 18years!

It is time for us to re-examine the priorities of the PAP government. Why would they be willing to spend hundreds of millions on an event which very few Singaporeans are interested in while become a miser unwilling to spend in improving or helping the lives of Singaporeans at large?

Where is the Kallang Sport hub which has been due for so long?
They are waiting to read the ending of the "wife at the staircase" story before they start building it.

I'm just kidding, you're a star in the sex forum. :)
