The companies mentioned are all GLCs. It's still the taxpayers who are largely paying for even the sponsors. If we calculate the YOG bill for taxpayers it is definitely more than $390million!

You advertise in such events for global exposure. Acer was computer for the Olympics. Or Visa card which has a global brand.

I am seriously at a loss as to why SMRT or Delgro would want to advertise. Their market is domestic. It has zero value for the companiy outside singapore. People are not going to say, yay whenI come to Singapore I will ride SMRT trains - heck there is only SMRT for trains.

NOL is a commercial shipping company. No idea the purpose of spending $$$ at Youth olympics to advertise.

SIA would make better sense. Why not get SIA to advertise. Shareholders should question how much $ is spent and reason for spending this $$ and the measured impact.

this is called performing national service. it will not look good if there is nothing about YOG on the buses, MRTs, taxis...etc.

some more all these GLCs lan lan have to put up the adverts ... SIA will think twice becos it is not inline with their 'atas' image outlook. Maybe Silkair can....

left pocket & right pocket syndrome. before the sponsors come into the picture, they initially budgeted to be < $200M. then when they realized it was so much fun to throw invoices at each other, singing along "be prepared to give a little more"... so then the bill swelled to about ±$390M. so when they realize it was lucrative, but the bill was becoming a sore eye for the public, they now call upon sponsors to dump their unexpended funds.... to which, the respective CEOs will get to score points, n the organizations/ corporations can also get some relief from taxes, n when time comes, they will reach out their hands to ask ah-gong for more $ for the following fixcal year.

its a win-win-win-win situation for all of them........ at the expense of who else??? tax payers of course.

not only that, this propaganda also becomes excuse for them to lie to shitizens that the GDP is doing well.

Not to forgive each athlete and key officials will also receive their Samsung Omnia mobile phone, which will be loaded with digital concierge services such as training and competition schedules, transport information and a multi-lingual dictionary.

So wonderful!

This is their way to cut costs. All these companies are already earning alot from YOG contracts and want to earn more but because there is an uproar against the overspending, they have to hide the additional costs as sponsorships.

But most of these sponsorships are largely owned by the taxpayers who will still be burdened with the excess spending. Only an idiot will miscalculate on such a massive scale.

Other Olympics that had over spending cases were largely due to building a few new and large stadiums. These stadiums were very costly and were built over many years and the builders had to suffer through various changes to the cost of their supplies over a few years.

This YOG must be investigated to the fullest to ensure that each and every dollar is accounted for.

Let's vote the PAPies out and investigate the YOG fiasco. Tell your friends that the time has come to have a public enquiry on the YOG and the only way to do so is to vote out the PAPies.
