THE International Olympic Committee has honoured eight Singaporeans for their contributions to the success of the inaugural Youth Olympic games.
They were each presented the Olympic Order in Silver on Thursday.
Heads of the Singapore National Olympic Council and committee, Mr Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, Dr Ng Hen Eng, Minister for Education and second Minister for Defence and Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sport, were among the eight honoured.
Two other awards from the IOC were also presented to Singapore earlier this month.
President S R Nathan and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong were given the Olympic Order in Gold in honour of Singapore's hosting the first-ever Youth Olympic Games.
Singapore also received the Olympic Cup for its commitment to the Olympic ideals and contribution to the Olympic Movement by hosting a successful first-ever Youth Olympic Games.
Some 5,000 athletes and officials from 204 National Olympic Committees took part in the Singapore YOG.
